They use these types of packages because they are lightweight and take up less cubic space on planes and vehicles which get loaded by cubes and weight. Because of the fuel cost they get hit with additional fees and surcharges with other types of packing such as boxes, etc. It sounds like to me he could possibly ship your trinket special. You possibly could be subject to paying the import duty fees because the trinket cost over $800.00.
