Hello Second Hour Family,
Things have a habit of creeping up on you while you’re caught up in the activities of running a brand.
From designing watches, to working with countless manufacturing partners and artisans, to the demands of running social media, even a major event like a birthday can suddenly loom large on the horizon.
But at Second Hour we’ve been keeping our fingers on the pulse and it’s with great excitement that we continue celebrations for our FOURTH ANNIVERSARY. It’s actually a lot more than four years that our founder, Peter, began designing what was to be our inaugural watch release - the Gin Clear – with no more serious ambition than to see if it would be possible to find a reliable manufacturing team, get some prototypes made and see how they resonated with the watch community.
The response was truly exciting, with a Kickstarter campaign smashing its target and leading to multiple production runs through 2020. Our second release, also launched via Kickstarter, was the MkI Mandala, which rewrote the book on what a sport dress watch could be. Elegant dials, eye catching hands and a sporty case aesthetic that made it the perfect watch for summer and nights out.
Subsequent releases - the Giant Stride, Mandala MkII, Sattelberg and the recent Mandala Burst – have only confirmed that we’re on the right track. But there is so much more to come and we’re currently developing exciting new models we're certain will set a new standard for the microbrand category and excite casual and obsessive watch collectors alike.
We’re proud of the way we have been able to manage inventory in a way few microbrands manage to achieve. Thanks to careful planning and budget management we have kept our inventory stocked, avoiding much of the frustrating wait times for restocks, the constant Sold Out signs on website shops and we have also refused to engage in scarcity tactics as a marketing approach - unless we have created a genuine limited-edition release. That means our current models are almost always available until we begin phasing them out.
Now, in 2023, as we finalise the production of the Gin Clear MkII, we’re looking back and raising a glass to everyone who has supported us along the way. So many loyal customers and friends who have added everything we have proudly made to their collections, and so many new people discovering us every day.
