Spent the morning removing batteries from watches that sit idle. This is the number one reason I am not in the crown pulling camp to conserve the battery.

Three different brands were starting to leak.

RENATA HELD UP THIS TIME AROUND

ENERGIZER WAS GOOD

MAXELL IS TRASH (TWO OR THREE LEAKING ACID)

I put the ones I worked on back together without the batteries. I'm making a list to order new ones.

Damn ! Looks like I’m gonna be elbows deep in some battery changes, Thanks for the info Mike

Been putting off a bunch of changes. Should just remove them all I guess.
That's what I plan on doing Bill. It makes no sense to put another battery in watches that sit idle for extended periods of time.

Maintenance and Inherent Risk

Idle watches over the long term can be problematic. Quartz watches risk the hazard of battery corrosion and leakage. With these, you should always remove the batteries. I recently put away a Bulova Moon Watch and a rare Omega LCD Speedmaster for long-term storage. The batteries were removed from each watch to ensure they not get damaged.

Agreed 1000%

It's been years since I purchased a quartz watch. I think this bad boy was my last one and I'm happy I snagged it. My NFW 10 slot box needed one more watch. I was going back and forth with George about swapping the movement to a Miyota 9000 or something, but he said the movement retainer would have to be changed. I don't think the modification would be hard to match or alter the one inside.
