2021 Omega Speedmaster Vs Old Moon Watch - Everything I Love & Loathe
May 6, 2021
The Urban Gentry
Today I’m reunited with a new for 2021 release of the most iconic chronograph of all time—the Omega Speedmaster Moon watch.
In this video we’ll compare the 2021 version to previous generations, discuss what's been updated, its illustrious history, and what I love and loathe about it. Join me for another independent and unsponsored review told from the perspective of a watch enthusiast, for watch enthusiasts.
So, why did I sell all my Speedies? What caused my obsession with them to end? Will this latest release win me back? Or has Omega further undervalued it with yet another version to cash in on its Nasa Apollo 11 fame? Love them or hate them, one cannot deny it's a fascinating story, so settle in and prepare to take off into the world of the Speedmaster!
Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional Hesalite Crystal - 310.30.42.50.01.001
Loved on Earth and beyond, the Speedmaster Moonwatch remains a true icon in the world of watchmaking. For its most recent update, the legendary chronograph has been inspired by its own historical design, while the Master Chronometer certification provides even more reliability and excellence.Inspired by the 4th generation Speedmaster style worn on the moon, every detail is true to its original spirit, but the movement is taken to another level. The Speedmaster Moonwatch is one of the world's most iconic timepieces. Having been a part of all six moon landings, the legendary chronograph is an impressive representation of the brand’s adventurous pioneering spirit.
This watch was made to ensure superior precision and the highest standards. The advantages include anti-magnetic, water resistance, durability, shock-resistance, and guaranteed less servicing. The watch is driven by the OMEGA Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 3861, which powers the small seconds sub-dial, 30-minute recorder, and 12-hour recorder, along with the central chronograph function. Similar to the 4th generation Speedmaster, it also includes an asymmetrical case, a black step dial with an applied OMEGA logo, and the famous dot over 90 on the anodized aluminum bezel ring.
Presented on a brushed five-arched-links-per-row stainless steel bracelet, this 42 mm Moonwatch in stainless steel features hesalite glass on the front and an embossed Seahorse medallion on the caseback. Stainless steel is the most conventional watchmaking material from outer craftsmanship and offers beauty, strength, and affordability. Omega uses 316L stainless steel, which is known for its corrosion resistance and high luster after polishing. It is the ideal material for everyday wear watches as well as high-stress or adventurous scenarios.
