Introducing the V3 edition of the Mako which has undergone the most drastic changes thus far. The 'Whirlpool' Guilloche dial is a sight to behold, with a texture that plays with the light. The dial has also been designed to be cleaner with fewer markings, with larger indices for even brighter lume. Case thickness has also been reduced for the Mako V3, to a svelte 11.5mm without the thick domed crystal. This is achieved through the use of the thinner Miyota 9015 which also offers an even lower price point and amazing timekeeping.

The Mako Diver

The Mako Shark: the fastest shark in the world. Smaller and streamlined, it was an ideal image for our latest diver's watch compared to our previous 'Hammerhead' model.

Featuring design cues from the 60s, constructed with modern technology, the Mako Diver is a capable diver's timepiece. The sapphire crystal has a 'box' shape similar to the acrylic crystals of old, without the scratches common with acrylic. A ceramic bezel offers extreme hardness against all the abuse you could throw at it. The watch also features 300m of water resistance to survive any depth you could take it down to.

The dial and bezel is painted for maximum visibility in the dark. A mixture of C3 and BGW9 lume is applied generously across all markings and the crown. The 3D patterns on the dial reflects light beautifully and makes it a joy to behold.

At 40mm in diameter, the watch does not look out of place on a dressier outfit. A short 46mm lug to lug length also ensures a good fit even on smaller wrists.

I like the 9015 wobble & sound from the unidirectional rotor. It distinguishes the movement from others. Just like the Valjoux 7750 has become know for the wobble. The 9015 and all of the quirky characteristics are fine by me and will stand the test of time.

Unlike the ETA, the Miyota 9015 utilizes a unidirectional rotor to wind up the movement, which some wearers have noted is markedly noisier.

Tim Mosso and Mike Michaels discuss the Valjoux 7750 automatic chronograph caliber. Mike discusses the strengths and weaknesses of the 7750 - also known as the ETA 7750. The ratchet driving wheel is a typical weak point of the 7750, and Mike explains that the ratchet driving wheel is a critical component of the automatic system. Knowledgeable watchmakers check this component before approving the sale of a 7750 to a client. Tim follows this discussion with an explanation of the different methods of driving an automatic movement; certain systems like the Rolex jeweled staff with bi-directional winding are exceptionally quiet but vulnerable; ceramic bearings with unidirectional winding are tough and efficient but generate noise and "rotor wobble."

Mr. Bond never looks directly at camera. Very disinterested dog look!

Tanks for including this, Mike! I don't mind the noise or wobble at all.
