I always like how at the end of the year we typically get some posts together about what we've acquired during the year, what our plans our for next year, Grails and collection updates.

I don't have any real specific goals for adding in the coming year. Stuff always pops up that is cool and unexpected. I might be interested in the H2O Navale once re-introduced. The Squale 60atmos Blu Puro has slipped through my fingers a couple times mostly because I am trying to stay away from doubles. I certainly wouldn't mind a new generation Oris Aquis. The newer Tag Aquaracer in green is pretty sweet. And then there are higher end pieces that remain on the periphery mostly due to cost. But nothing specific unless it really scratches that itch... so to speak.

So how about everyone else... what do you have and what are your plans if any?

Happy New Year everyone.

impressive to say the least Mike. Not just in the size and variety of the collection but also in your ability to track them all! Very cool.

Thanks Gavin. To tell the truth I'd rather have a much more manageable collection like you have. Hopefully I'll get around to do what you did and condense the collection down, addition by subtraction seems the way to go at a certain point. My apologies if I offended you in Lee's thread, HNY to you and the family.

I put the cork in the bottle this year only buying two bargain watches that totaled $125. Spent like a drunken maniac in 2018(all quality more spendy watches). For 2020 not sure where I'm going anymore. One thing is for sure I need to start selling some off as it no longer is fun having some 300 watches.

SOTC liquidated 3 collections in 10 years and moved 4 times in 7 years ...nice not lugging them boxes... have a couple now nothing over a couple hondo. SOTC accumulating knowledge and R U EXPERIENCED ( the experiences over the last decade plus )

it's a privilege to get vicarious pleasure from all the wit grail masters still enjoy posting & peeping as a vestige of the addiction

Surprised we haven't gotten more responses, these threads tend to be popular each year.... oh well, we'll see.

Mike roadwarrior yeah I'm thinking of consolidating more. If I had a piece in mind probably would've done it already. At 30/31 each watch gets worn at least once per month which I think is pretty reasonable... if this hobby can even be considered "reasonable" lol

I wonder if any hobby can be considered "reasonable", especially this one Gavin. Collecting watches is worse than eating potato chips, pretzels or ice-cream. Once I start, the next thing I know the container is empty. Thankfully the same thing doesn't happen to my bank account, but it does put a world of hurt on it.

Well Gavin here is my list what I have and what I added in 2019.
android 3
Armida 1
Benarus 2
Borealis 1
Christopher Ward 1
Deep blue 2
Hamilton 2
Helberg 1
Invicta 1
Lum-tec 1
NFW 4
Raven 3
Tempest 1
Vostok Europe 1
Purchases 2019
Ocean crawler DLC Dream diver

Xeric NASA 50th anniversary of Apollo 11 moon landing meteorite dial still waiting on
Thinking about the Zelos mako v3 steel ice I think my only purchase of 2020.
Happy New year everyone!

" my greatest fear is that when i pass on to the gr8 tool yard in the sky my wife sells my watches for what i told her i paid for them "

I have no clue as to how many watches I have in the collection or what in the hell I bought this year. I have gotten so many watches I can not remember if I have one in my collection or not. I have been taking pics to keep in my phone so I can check so I do not buy doubles. The other day I probably tried on a million and a half dollars worth of watches one Richard Mille was a bulk of it. LOL Saw some great watches out there and want for a couple. I have had my eye on a Chronoswiss Am Pm Timemaster for a while now. Even though it's well out of my self imposed limit I might pull the trigger on it if they except my offer. Aside from that it's what even catches my eye that might be on sale I do want two more Movado watches to fill the two spots in the 6 slot watch box I have with my other 4 in it.

Well, I think I'm at a paltry 165 now, so I feel far better knowing I have a comparatively "small" collection, with room to grow! I'm actually doing a fancy spreadsheet inventory whenever I can get to it (this month I hope), but the brand list is as follows (I will toss in some numbers for the ones I know):

Breitling (1), Oris (1), Raymond Weil (2), Maurice LaCroix (1), Louis Erard (2), Seiko (7?), Mido (1), Certina (3), Tissot (6?), Hamilton (4), Victorinox (4, maybe 5), Wenger (3, not sure), Christopher Ward (5), Edox (2), Gevril Gv2 (2), Swiss Army Charmex (1), Luminox (5 or 6), Bulova (2), Citizen (a few), Casio (1), Orient (a few), Seagull (2), Reef Tiger (2), Aragon (5), Deep Blue (a few), Air Blue (1), Magrette (1), Belmoto (1), Leyden (1), Lum-Tec (1), Dryden (1), House of Horology (1), Tsao Baltimore (1) and Invicta (all the rest!). Oh, and there's a smartwatch in there somewhere too, can't recall the brand, that I thought was neat for about a week, and haven't worn since.

I think I added 20 or so, last year. This place fired me up ahahaha. Overall it was probably my best year for watches, adding the Breitling and the Oris, at the top end, along with some nicer Seikos, and then having a blast with the discovery of Aragon, and getting some very fun Invictas and other stuff. I'd say the Oris grab is likely my most beloved buy, of all time, especially considering the price point. If an asteroid was coming, that's the one I'd grab on my way to wherever is not doomed by a space rock and I could be happy with that one watch, the rest of my days.

2020, hmmm, well, the plan is NOT to keep buying the fun affordables, and be all disciplined about saving up for something grail-ish, either a Panerai or the Omega Seamaster I've drooled over for a long time. That being said, I have a few Invictas on the way already, hahahaha. In all fairness, I'm retiring a couple that sustained some damage (one at the hands of a jeweler, the other is my fault for thinking I could do a repair, lol), so I think the numbers will stay about the same, meaning, nine days in, I'm still more or less on track (less, probably than more, however, if I get these other two I'm considering).

I kind of want to finish out some Invicta buys I passed on, years back, when the brand fell out of favor with me for the wrong reasons. It's pretty awesome that discontinued models can still be found over at eBay, brand new. So, it might grow the collection by a few, but then the focus is really on not adding numbers, but hopefully adding one grail-esque piece at a time, if life works out to do so.
