Characterised by innovation, impetus and increased time spent face-to-face with our customers around the world, here are our highlights

Our New Year’s Resolution? To make 2020 even better than 2019. In the new CW Blog, here’s why this year has been such a special one for us, and what you can expect as we enter the new decade…

It’s the final countdown: CW’s best of 2019

As we reach the final day of 2019, it’s only appropriate that we should turn back to appreciate what a fantastic – and busy! – year it’s been here at Christopher Ward. Characterised by innovation, impetus and increased time spent face-to-face with our customers around the world, here are our highlights:

Trid3nt

Let’s start with the big one: the launch of Trident 3 in May. It’s always a risk to make changes to a customer favourite, but in the case of the third iteration of our bestselling dive series, they well and truly paid off. A glossy dial and redesigned hands provided a more modern feel to our dive watch aesthetic, while a new case, upgraded lume, plus improved bezel and crown functions reinforced those looks with superb technicality. But the innovation didn’t stop there…

Quick-release bracelet

Remember when changing your watch onto a bracelet required either a trip to the local jewellers or your own dedicated tool, plus the perils of scratching its case? Those days are gone: with the addition of a quick-release bracelet to the Trident range, the job could take just seconds. Refreshing your watch’s look has never been easier.

Shooting the moon with the C1 Moonglow

As an online-only brand, it’s incredibly humbling to discover the lengths some of our customers go to to view our watches. This was the case when CW appeared at Worn & Wound’s Wind Up Watch Fair in Manhattan, New York, and one customer had travelled over 800 miles for one watch: the C1 Moonglow. He purchased one on the spot! Released to mark 50 years since man set foot on the Moon, the Moonglow’s highly luminescent perpetual moons and monochromatic colour scheme proved that modern and traditional could co-exist – and customers responded in their masses, making it a 2019 bestseller.

Apex underwater

Created to celebrate five years of our in-house movement Calibre SH21, the C60 Apex was a landmark release for more reasons than one. Designed in conjunction with Swiss skeleton watch pioneers Armin Strom, its exposed dial and movement were designed in unison. The latter was visible through an exhibition window – the first time we’d included one in a dive release – whilst retaining its 300m water resistance. This 100-piece limited edition can be found here.

CW on the Road

With customers travelling from around the world to visit our 1 Park Street showroom, we had an idea: why not head out (within reason) to venues nearer to them? The result was our first CW Get Togethers, beginning in Edinburgh in January and followed by events in Manchester, London and Bristol. Offering a sneak peak of new releases, they also gave attendees the opportunity to meet the co-founders and ask them questions about the brand. Following their success, more are due for 2020…

Making a splash with the Blue Marine Foundation

Having introduced new eco-friendly packaging in 2019, Christopher Ward also chose to partner with Blue Marine Foundation as part of its Winter Stories series. An eco-charity dedicated to fighting overfishing of the planet’s oceans through conservation, CW donated 5% of the proceeds from five of its bestselling models in the build-up to Christmas to help support its very worthy cause.

As good as 2019 has been, we’ve never been content to rest on our laurels. So here are a few clues about 2020:

For those who enjoy their dive watches, February is looking like it’ll be an Elite month…

We’re reviving an old technology for a new release…

It’s the Year of the Chronograph…

Another big release of 2019 was the C60 Apex. Celebrating our in-house movement Calibre SH21, it challenged the norms of a dive watch, featuring both a skeletonised front and an exhibition caseback.

A very smart watch, which brings us onto our first theme of 2020…

Thanks for posting this up, Mike.:hat:
