The NFL has fined star Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger for wearing an Apple Watch on the sidelines of a recent game.

According to ESPN, Roethlisberger was spotted on the sidelines of the Steelers and Bengals game last Monday wearing street clothes and an Apple Watch. As a result, the League fined the star quarterback $5,000 for a uniform violation.

NFL rules bar any electronic device that can transmit or receive messages from being worn on the sidelines. But Roethlisberger is apparently “livid” about the fine, ESPN reported.

According to sources close to him, he’s primarily upset because he didn’t receive any advanced warning that he was in violation or a chance to remove the Apple Watch. In fact, he only found out about the violation after receiving a letter notifying him of the fine.

Roethlisberger was not actually playing in the game on Monday because he is recovering from an elbow injury in the second week of the season. Because he is unable to use his right arm, the quarterback’s wife actually dressed him for the game — which included strapping the smartwatch to his left wrist.

Because of that, Roethlisberger said he wasn’t even aware that he was wearing an Apple Watch in the first place.

The star quarterback is reportedly appealing the decision. It isn’t clear whether Roethlisberger will be successful in getting the fine reduced or tossed out.

This isn’t the first time that Roethlisberger has been under scrutiny for allegedly using a smart device on the sidelines. Back in 2015, the quarterback was seen using what looked suspiciously like a smartphone in the middle of a game with the Ravens.

The potential uniform violation was thrown out when it was revealed that the quarterback was simply looking at a wristband that contained the game’s play calls.

Of course, It’s worth noting that not all Apple Watches are actually capable of transmitting messages themselves.

GPS-only devices are only capable of sending and receiving messages if an iPhone is close by or connected to Wi-Fi. The more expensive GPS + Cellular models can send messages, but only if they are connected to a cellular plan.

Shoot, Ben Roethlisberger makes starting NFL quarterback money and he has an Apple Watch...yes...he should be fined for even owning one! He needs to learn watch-ology from Odell Beckham Jr.

WATCHES FOR THE SUPER BOWL 52 CHAMPIONS

On February 4th, 2018, the Philadelphia Eagles faced the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl. Spoiler, the Underdogs became Top Dog and triumphed over the Patriots with a 41-33 final score.

Watches for Champions

This win marks the first time the Philadelphia Eagles have won the Super Bowl. The team last went to the Super Bowl in 2004 and lost to the Patriots. In honor of their win, we’re taking a look at some key members of the team with watches they can commemorate with!

Doug Pederson

As head coach, Doug Pederson had a lot of pressure and needed to take some risks. He already wears a digital watch when he’s on the field coaching. This is where the F.P. Journe Centigraphe Sport Titanium comes into play.

The watch is a modern size at 42mm, and even though it would be considered large, it isn’t heavy on the wrist thanks to the titanium case. The Centigraphe is very sporty and can measure up to 1/100th of a second. We bet that he’d be doing a lot of timing during the games!

Nick Foles

As the Super Bowl MVP, Nick Foles needs a watch that mirrors this. This all-star QB is 6’6″, which means he can wear a larger watch. We suggest that he takes a closer look at the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, or even taking it one step further and going with the Royal Oak Chronograph with 41mm case.

The stainless steel and white dial is both casual and classic, of course the Royal Oak itself is a classic design. If he chooses to go with the Royal Oak Chronograph, he gets the best of both worlds. The classic design, a casual style and the chronograph ties it back into sports.

LeGarrette Blount

After being signed to the Philadelphia Eagles from the New England Patriots in May 2017, LeGarrette Blount helped lead the Eagles to victory throughout the season. During the Super Bowl, he rushed for 90 yards and included a 21-yard touchdown.

Blount has style, sporting a red and black suit with matching red shoes just a day after the game. We don’t think he’d hold back on his watch choice either, opting for the all gold Rolex GMT Master II 16718, with champagne Serti dial. The diamond and ruby hour markers jump out from the dial. The addition of the all black 24-hour bezel adds the contrast the watch needs while the GMT is perfect for jet-setting across the country (and to the UK) for the games.

Fletcher Cox

Drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2012, Fletcher Cox has played in two Pro Bowls before heading to play in the Super Bowl. He was named to play in his third straight Pro Bowl but couldn’t play in it due to the Eagles advancing to play against the Patriots.

Outside of football, Cox can be found outside. For this, he needs a watch that is both sporty and functional. The Panerai Luminor 1950 Rattrapante PAM 427 is the perfect combination. The 8 day power reserve means he can take it off for a few days without worrying. The titanium case makes it light weight on the wrist so even though this is large at 47mm, it isn’t weighing him down. The rattrapante allows him to time two events at once. We’d of course switch the leather strap out for an OEM rubber strap for easy maintenance and cleaning.

Brandon Graham

Another key player in the game on Sunday night was Brandon Graham. He was able to knock the ball out of Brady’s throwing hand for a fumble recovered by the Eagles with just 2:14 left in the game.

Graham played football at the University of Michigan, which is where Tom Brady also played in college, and is still a huge supporter of the school. For this reason, the Panerai Mare Nostrum PAM 716 is the perfect addition to show his love for the team.

Carson Wentz

Even though he didn’t play in the game against the Patriots, Carson Wentz was a huge part of helping get the Eagles to the Super Bowl. He unfortunately left the game during Week 14 with a knee injury but was later revealed to be a torn ACL. Just two days after the Eagles’ win, Wentz announced that he proposed to his girlfriend.

Even though Wentz enjoys to be outside when he’s not on the field, we can’t help but think he needs a classic timepiece for his big day walking down the aisle. The Jaeger-LeCoutlre Master Ultra Thin Small Second is the perfect blend, dressy yet can still be worn more casually. The time-only feature makes it appropriate for the upcoming wedding, and it is just 7.6mm thick. He can even treat his fianc?e to a matching Rendez-Vous Night & Day!

We can’t wait to watch the Parade take over the city on Thursday, and will be watch spotting! Congratulations again to the Philadelphia Eagles on their first Super Bowl win!
