I wasn't really looking for an Omega, nor a Speedmaster, but an opportunity arose to which I couldn't say no. One (this one) popped up on eBay with a BIN OBO in great condition, running well, box and papers, but with the caveat that the quickset date did not work. Well, this model has the Caliber 3330 that uses a recessed pusher at the 10:00 position at the side of the case, and does not quickset via the crown. So I took the chance that the seller was not aware of this and only tried via the crown. I made a lower but reasonable offer (to asking price and within reasonable repair cost range) and it was accepted within 10 minutes! Well, needless to say, I got very lucky on all accounts as it indeed was in perfect condition and the quickset via pusher works flawlessly and has no issues whatsoever. Bottom line, I stole a near mint Omega Speedmaster Racing. This is also what I think is the nicest looking model of the Racing line; the grey dial, black panda sub-dials, and yellow accents. The dial is amazing as it changes from grey to black in the light and the "Clous de Paris" texture of the sub-dials gives the dial great depth. It has a beautifully sculpted, polished and brushed 40mm case with a 19mm lug width and is about 12mm thick. A very nice aluminum black and yellow "Tachymetre" scale bezel surrounds the double AR-coated, slightly raised and domed sapphire crystal. The black, grey and yellow color scheme is carried throughout; bezel, dial and strap. Even the Clous de Paris texture is carried over to the strap. Such attention to detail. The movement is a COSC Certified Omega Caliber 3330 column wheel chronograph with Co-axial escapement and a free sprung-balance equipped with a Si14 silicon balance spring. It beats at 28,800 bph and has a 52 hour power reserve. This movement also carries twice the normal warranty than many of the other Omega movements. It has 100M water resistance. This is the rubber strap model with fold under deployment clasp (it comes on bracelet as well) and I might snag a bracelet for this one as it left quite a bit of money in my wallet! It is just a very attractive and sporty execution of the Omega Speedmaster. Even at 40mm without crown, it has a very commanding and prominent wrist presence. I couldn't be happier as my gamble paid off and this watch looks even better in person.... and on my wrist! It is truly a stunning sport luxury watch. Here are some pictures.
