When it comes to luxury chronographs, why do the Rolex Daytona and Omega Speedmaster get all the attention? The Breitling Navitimer predates both, and in many ways has a far more illustrious history of impressive innovations and often overlooked accomplishments.

Why then is the Navitimer so underrated? And what makes it so special? Why am I so fascinated by them and eager to collect them over other iconic chronographs? And with such a profoundly important legacy behind the Navitimer, why is it far better value and more affordable than its rivals from Omega and Rolex?

Today I take an in-depth look at 9 crucial things every watch enthusiast should know about one of my most beloved Swiss chronographs. From being chosen as "the" pilot watch by the AOPA, to its adventures in space, world-changing design, trendsetting features, famous wearers, and even some bizarre moments in the brand's darkest days, this video is essential Gentry viewing for any watch lover out there.

Thank you for watching The Urban Gentry channel.

The watch is beautiful with baton markers but with numerals it’s a tiny bit homely. I prefer the older models like yours that still have the wings.I feel like they have changed the blue as well, yours is absolutely sparkling but the newer ones look more muted for lack of better words.

Thanks... I agree I prefer the baton markers by a lot. But the one TGV is sporting is the Cossie 24hr model so it needs the numerals. Certainly however the dial is already cluttered so the 24hr Cossie is even more cluttered.

Yeah my Navi was purchased in 2020 so its not old but it is a "legacy" piece meaning essentially it is the previous generation asthetically. The blue on mine has a touch of grey or silver to it. It is a different color than the current, more dark royal blue they are using.

My Sea Wolf and Super Avenger are both about seven or eight years old. I probably won’t get any of the new stuff. Breitling still does offer a lot of nice pieces though.
