In this episode we take a look at a really exciting release from the Australian brand Melbourne Watch Company. Their Burnley Automatic line has answered call many watch fans have been asking for, for a long time now; An affordable, non-(direct)homage, to the ever popular Genta porthole-style wristwatch with an integrated bracelet. To top it off, it's also quite thin, really well finished, and just under $600. This subgenre of steel sports watches with integrated bracelets have previously only ever existed within the highest tiers of horology but as of late, have really started to start trending again across the full gambit of luxury timepieces. From Tudor to GP to Bell & Ross to Wempe, all the way up to A. Lange & Söhne (they were able to actually get away with traditional lugs paired to an integrated look bracelet) have all recently taken a crack at the classic formula originally made popular by Gérald Genta. Even more recently we've seen this style of wristwatch filter down in the entry-level luxury likes of Maurice Lacroix with their intriguing AIKON line. Anything below that $2k price point has typically been a bit of a mixed bag of very cheap traditional homages and somewhat over engineered small batch designs. I think Melbourne Watch Co. really was able to hit that 'Goldilocks' magic with this thin, well proportioned, and just flatout handsome Burnley release. Let me know what you all think in the comments below, thanks guys!
