Our First Two Watches
Five years in the making, the Field Watch and The GCT watch represent the ideas that we (Tyler & R.T.) have been dreaming of creating. We've spent our entire watchmaking careers, up to this point, building watches using antique pocket watch movements for Vortic and celebrating the companies that came before us. That's why we are so excited to start our own legacy in the American watchmaking industry by building watches from the ground up.Now that we can choose the movement, we're using smaller, fully modern automatic movements. And, for the first time in many years, we're able to purchase movements assembled in the United States. The gentlemen at Fine Timepiece Solutions (FTS) in Fountain Hills, Arizona, have designed their own caliber and invested in the clean room and equipment necessary to assemble movements here. On top of that, they're training unskilled workers to build and service watches. FTS is the perfect movement partner for Colorado Watch Company because they focus on quality, value, and scalability. They call their new movement the "Americhron."
We felt strongly about making the dial in the US but found finding someone who could do it challenging. That's why we decided to do it ourselves. Colorado Watch Company dials are milled from steel billet here in Fort Collins, and we just imported a high-end CNC pad printer from Switzerland so that we can do everything here.
Something we have experience in is case making. After years of practice, we are very proud of the 40mm Field Watch case and 42mm GCT watch cases. Both are CNC milled from 316L stainless steel billet here in the Colorado factory. CNC machining is not "the easy" or "the cheap" way to do it, but it allows us to make extremely accurate parts and have complete control over the design of our products.
We chose to make an exhibition caseback for our watches to show off the mechanical movement. We also recessed the caseback flush with the case, so it wears comfortably and is as thin as possible.
