Tissot uses snap-backs on several watches in the mid-3-figure price range. So do some others. Maybe it's to reduce cost. Maybe it's to keep the watches smaller/thinner.
"Tissot isn't always great about providing a notch for a knife blade. I regulated a Visodate last month, and couldn't find a notch, but I found a nice spot between the lugs and got the back off without much trouble. I've only got one Tissot quartz (PR100 COSC). I haven't had to change the battery yet, but I can see that there is no notch on the back. My suggestion is to just probe the caseback edge a bit with your fingernail or knife, and choose a good spot where you can slip in the knife blade. If you do it between the lugs, you may be able to use the lugs themselves for leverage."
