Islander Hi-Beat Automatic Dress Watch with Robin's Egg Blue Dial, AR Sapphire Crystal #ISL-85

This Islander watch has a classic and tasteful 38mm x 11mm stainless steel case design. The sides are polished and the top has a fine brushed finish. The striking robin's egg blue color dial features applied silver hour markers filled with SuperLuminova. The sleek silver hands are also filled with SuperLuminova for viewing the time in the dark. An anti-reflective sapphire crystal guards against scratches and provides you with an exceptionally clear view of the time and date.

The ISL-85 is powered by a 24-jewel, Hi-Beat (28,800 bph) Miyota 9015 automatic movement with that is accurate and has predictable performance. You can hand wind it and it also hacks (seconds hand stops when crown is pulled out). Power reserve is rated at about 42 hours. The movement is visible via an exhibition window caseback. Usually dress watches only come with 30 to 50 meters of water resistance - the ISL-37 is rated at 100 meters and includes a screw-down crown.

The watch comes with an elegant stainless steel bracelet with a push-button deployant clasp for easy on and off. The bracelet links are solid as are the end-links. The lug width is 20mm. Sizing is made easier with the use of a screws instead the more common pins.

Marc mentioned the reason he did not use the true Miyota no-date .. He did not use the 9039 or 90S5 no date because he simply did not have the minimums for it. Maybe in the future after seeing how this goes .. (around the 3:50 mark)

I would say for my money the price is very fair for a 9015 between a sapphire sandwich with a bracelet having screws in the links and scissor clasp.

I love the color whatever we call it.... (turquoise to my eyes) esp in the video. The dial is very stark, obviously a Rollie homage of which apparently Mark sells enough of to buy his own Rolex yachmaster. Good for him!

Not a consideration for me at that size, or with that bracelet but you can't argue it is a looker!

Maybe it’s just me but I seam to prefer no date to watches with day/date or just date. They look better and easier to set. Also with my eyes I have a hard time reading them.

No date is my preference also. ghost or no ghost
no date my preference with 9039

closed dial hiding 9015 or NH35 ...I have learned to "resent" the ghost position

my final thought on micro distinctions: date window watches look more "retro" imho so they just might have a place in the box ...no date watches look sleek and futuristic and are my preference... but i might consider a "date" watch with retro chic

and today I learned a 9039 full dial covers an "open heart " movement
