Rolex Fastnet Race – Record fleet for 50th edition of legendary contest

ROLEX
Sep 1, 2023

The biennial Rolex Fastnet Race is one of the most revered and challenging ocean races in the world. This year marked the 50th edition of this event considered to be a pillar of Rolex’s long-standing and privileged relationship with the sport. It was fitting, therefore, that this milestone chapter of the legendary contest should feature its largest ever fleet. Setting off from Cowes in southern England, into winds gusting 40 knots, crews were set an immediate and extreme examination of their boat-handling and resilience. When those who completed the course crossed the finish line in Cherbourg, France, fatigue from their exertions was matched by pride at passing the test. Max Klink’s Caro from Switzerland secured the Fastnet Challenge Cup for overall victory under IRC time correction, adding a new name and country to the honour roll on the coveted trophy. Since 2001, as part of its support for yachting dating back almost 70 years, Rolex has partnered the event and its organizer, the Royal Ocean Racing Club. Discover more https://on.rolex.com/3ErhGhT

Rolex Middle Sea Race – Relentless determination of crews produces thrilling finish

ROLEX
Dec 1, 2023

The Rolex Middle Sea Race is one of the world’s premier classic yacht races. First held in 1968, it is renowned for the camaraderie among its entrants, with both professional and amateur crews sharing a start line set against the historic backdrop of Malta’s capital Valetta, one of the most spectacular points of embarkation in offshore sailing. This year’s race will be remembered for the spirit of the competitors, who maximized every opportunity, overcame the complexity and unpredictability of the weather, and sailed with great determination right to the finish line. The seconds separating the leading boats reflected this ceaseless endeavour. Emerging victorious as overall race winner was Andrea Recordati’s Italian yacht Wally 93 Bullitt, with Leopard 3 sealing back-to-back monohull line honours. United States yacht Red Ruby, sailed by owners Christina and Justin Wolf, came close to making race history as the first double-handed winner. Supported by Rolex since 2002 as part of the brand’s long-standing relationship with yachting dating back to the late 1950s, the Rolex Middle Sea Race is organized by the Royal Malta Yacht Club and ranks as the Mediterranean’s most renowned offshore race.

Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race – Challenging sailors to their very core

ROLEX
Feb 2, 2024

The Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race enjoys a reputation as one of yachting’s most demanding tests of physical and mental resilience. The 78th edition of this offshore classic certainly lived up to that status, with the fleet of 103 yachts facing some of the most unpredictable conditions seen in recent years along the 628-nautical mile course. Christian Beck’s LawConnect took line honours in a thrilling fight to the finish between the 100-foot (30.5 metres) Maxi yachts, edging out Andoo Comanche by 51 seconds, the second closest finish in race history. Tasmanian boat Alive, owned by Phillip Turner, claimed overall victory on corrected time to claim the Tattersall Cup; in doing so, it joined the select few with two overall wins in the nearly eight decades of competition, having also triumphed in 2018. Organized by the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia (CYCA), in conjunction with the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania, Rolex has partnered this iconic event since 2002 as part of the brand’s near 70-year relationship with yachting.
