So this is my review of my latest acquisition the Lapizta Izurus Diver. If you've seen some of my other posts you'll know that I often pass on information regarding what I think are interesting watches to the other members of the site. One of the sources of these watches has been from Touch of Modern. On a couple of occasions I noticed the Lapizta brand and finally decided to drop the hammer on one that caught my eye. At the price offered, compared to what my research indicated was the average internet price, I felt the deal was good enough to take a chance on one of their designs that fit right in with most of the other pieces in my collection, that being large diver-chronographs.

Now on to the watch! The Lapizta Izurus is a all 316L stainless steel dive watch with a depth rating of 300meters which I thought was pretty nice at the price of about $170.00 shipped. The all satin brushed cushion shaped case measures 48mm wide and about 16 to 17mm deep. This is a good size watch with plenty of solid heft for those that like a substantial timepiece on the wrist but without going overboard like some others I own. This watch is well balanced and the signed 24mm soft rubber strap holds the watch in place so there's no wrist slop. I really hate wrist slop. The strap also comes with a very well executed signed and very substantial custom designed buckle. The overall presentation of the watch is very well done.

The dial is black on this model and is somewhat of a flat finish. It's not dull but its certainly not bright or reflective and the color is deep. The inset subdials and metallic outlines of the indices are orange and contrast well with the other dial markings. The dial also features a raised chapter ring with a tachometer scale and a date opening at the 4:30 mark. The luminescence is about what you'd expect. Not Superluminova but not terrible either and all hour markers, the hands as well as the chrono hand are treated. All of this combines to give the dial a very pleasing high end multi-dimensional appearance.

On the right side of the case are the screw down crown and piston style pushers which are stainless(?) with shiny black knurled grippy things. The crown guard has small hex head screws which make it appeared to be attached as opposed to being an integral part of the case but I have no plans on pulling out the tools to find out for sure. These screws also match the screws on the lugs which I know are cosmetic as I had to fight with the band when I first opened the watch. The bezel has very defined deep wide gear style teeth and rotates very smoothly at 120 clicks and has about the same amount of annoying back play found on most watches at this cost.

The bezel insert is a shiny black with markers from the 12 to the 20 mark and then numbers from then on at the 30, 40 and 50 with a single hash mark in between and a red non-luminous triangle at the 12 o'clock position. The left side of the case has a big deep 300M designation carved into it just in case you forget. Unnecessary I know but it does look good and breaks up what would otherwise be a huge slab of stainless. The screwed down case back is also very nice in my opinion and features all the model and feature info one would expect and has a nice deep Lapizta name, logo and a big dangerous looking fish. It is very nicely done.

With all those pluses there would have to be some minuses, right? Yep. First, one of the spring bars that holds the strap onto the lugs was messed up. That's about as technical as I can get. I don't know what was wrong. It looked to be the same size as the other but would not keep the strap on. Luckily I had one, and only one, that was big enough, in my stash that did work. Minor problem solved. The second issue is a cosmetic one and it's not to bad depending if you think it's not too bad or not. The bezel insert triangle is reddish/orange and does not match the orange color on the rest of the dial. Again not a huge deal but color matching would have been nice.

Lastly, the chrono hand does not line up straight with the 12 mark. This happens a lot with quartz chronos and I have learned how to adjust them and did so this time but to no avail. The chrono hand on mine will not line up with the 12 so I will have to have the hand reset if it bugs me too much.

My overall impressions of this watch is that it represents a very good example of a dive watch in this price range maybe even a little better. It certainly compares favorably with many of the similar Invicta watches I own. The fit and finish of the watch is very good and the few faults I found were not enough to put me off the watch. I really like this watch. It looks and feels good on the wrist and the strap, which is a little short, is both comfortable and secure. I would have no problem recommending this brand to others.

A very excellently-written and easy-to-read (and relate to, as well) review; thanks for posting it! I see what you mean about the color mismatch; that would drive me nuts, though I don't know if that alone would be a show-stopper; this plus the chrono seconds hand might be, though. Still, it's a very attractive piece, and I hope you will enjoy it for many, many years to come... Thanks again for the great write-up. :)
