Repair Of 1937 Hamilton Pilot Watch With Broken Balance Staff
Magic WatchmakingDec 3, 2022
Hamilton watch company is an American company founded 1892 in Lancaster Pennsylvania, USA.
This particular watch movement belongs to a pocket watch. The movement is equipped with 17 jewels. That's why the calibre number is 917. There were also high grade movements equipped with 21 (calibre 921) or 23 (calibre 923) jewels. These were mostly used in gold pocket watches.
This particular movement is so to say the bread and butter movement. It was used in pocket watches which were mostly gold plated. Someone has put this movement in a wristwatch case with a pilot dial. Which is really beautiful. This movement is from 1937-1938.
It has a broken balance staff. It was not easy to find a replacement. The first balance staff I ordered was the wrong size and not useable, the second one finally worked.
