Ok so some backstory......my daughter got chosen to walk the runway in New York Fashion Week in NYC this past Sunday. We woke up at 4am Sat to leave and the dreaded email came in that the flight was cancelled....not delayed but cancelled. We could not get anyone on the phone so I drove up to the airport. We are a small town so not a bad trip. I get into the terminal and the line is out the door and there is not a single person at the desks. I wait about 30 min and my wife is on at home the phone working that angle. The airport police are down there since people can;t act right......they did ok though. I was proud. Once I realized it's a lost cause I went home and we had to decide if we drive there or what. Too far to drive to be there by 8 am the next day. No flight to get us there until 9 pm the next day. So sad but we have to scrap the trip. So sad for our daughter. Good new is she has been offered to do it next year so we have hope. We lost some $ in show tickets and we are currently arguing with AA to get flight credit or money back....first world problems. I think God just didn't want us there this week.
So....why does that matter????? I had the week off and could have worked but decided to do work around the house. As I was cleaning out a drawer I saw this watch and a envelope of really old dials from like 15 years ago that I forgot I had. I will fast forward to save the reading........I painted the dial....scotch bright and steel wool for the distressed dial look. I drilled the hole for the subdials. As you all know when you have subdials the hands are at differing heights so everything spins and is not touching. I did my first build like this and I needed a win and got it. I like how it turned out.
The best part was as I was writing this one of my wife's coworkers that had been through H E double hockey sticks texted me and wanted to buy the watch for her husband. She does so much for my wife at work that I gifted the watch for her husband and included a bunch of jewelry for her. She works for my wife and is a rock star so It's nice to spread the love around to those that need a win.
Thanks for reading and I ask that all of us give boldly to those that need a small win in their lives. It does not have to be money. Just reach out and make someone's day.
