It's just the venting of my frustrations after years and years of this type of thing (and worse). I spent a lot of time having to answer to someone else in order to financially support my family, and was told to bite my tongue, so people got used to getting away with saying whatever they wanted about me without any retaliation from me. Those days are over. I represent no one, no brands and no one else's interests, so I can speak freely... and when someone decides to push, I will push back.
It's not really over the top when you consider what I've had to listen to for over ten years now. It's more of a "straw that broke the camel's back" scenario honestly. I've had people say some nasty things about me that were completely made up, I've had people threaten me and my family, and I've had to shake loose a stalker that took things from online to the real world... and all had to be dealt with "softly" and quietly.
No more.
Well, venting is certainly understandable but if I might be permitted to suggest something: you're seeing boogymen where none exist much like some see ISIS tattooed across your forehead unjustifiably.
As the demon Abaddon points out you cannot simultaneously deny and benefit from your past. It's rather of a package deal, so to speak. It is reasonable to assume that for every ten watch aficionados that will thank you for your instruction there exists one, two, five or more that blame you for having filled their heads with stuff that later needed to be unlearned - sometimes at great expense. You have admitted to saying hinky stuff yourself to stay employed so I'm assuming there is no contention on this point.
Sometimes people take being lied to personally. I am not one of them but I never once spent money based on your say-so hence I have no personal complaint. But if someone bought 450 Invicta Swiss watches based on your counsel that turned out to be Chinese there may exist some residual stress regarding such matters. I'll grant they did it to themselves but not many will acknowledge having done so unaided.
But, and I mean this only constructively, I think I speak for some few of us that we expected, well, something more from your escape from being forced to misrepresent stuff. Personally I expected a greater depth of understanding regarding crystallization and the practicality of coating stuff with sapphire. But, admittedly, I have a background in such stuff and there was no reason for me to assume it was background needed to be quite competent in the watch trade as you clearly are.
When I noted that 3, 4 or 5 brands tracked back to the same anonymous GoDaddy account in Scottsdale I did say something about the dubious provenance of "Swiss" being printed on the dial of some of these products and I would admit that I would have much preferred that you covered it in your review. This is, admittedly, a minor point. Then again I admit to having a high regard for Zelos despite being a relatively new Kickstarter funded Singapore brand. By all indications the guy is doing a good job of bringing value to the market.
No doubt people have picked on you but, for the most part anyway, they're not here. Carry one and enjoy.
But, as the demon notes, for so long as you intend to trade on your expertise gained while selling people Invicta you must, perforce, deal with the negative aspects of having sold people Invicta. They are inextricably tied together for good or ill with nothing neither you nor I could do to change it.
