The Omega Central Tourbillon is a legend and an offering for which Rolex and Breitling have no answer. First offered in 1994 and upgraded consistently, the flagship of the Omega watch brand gained COSC Swiss chronometer certification in 2002. This example features the upgraded Omega tourbillon caliber 2600B and an extraordinary full "gold brick" or "yellow brick road" bracelet.
The Omega De Ville Tourbillon as fitted with a full gold bracelet commanded a breathtaking $104,000 in 2006. The exquisite 18-karat yellow gold bracelet was assembled by the former Lascor of Sesto Calende, Italy. Omega's parent, Swatch Group, purchased Lascor during the 1990s to become its gold bracelet and clasp specialist.
The result is a gold bracelet that is seamless, unitary, silken on the wrist, and a work if art in its own right. Any Omega watch would be enriched by this luxurious accessory, but the De Ville Central Tourbillon truly deserves such a laurel.
Omega's De Ville Tourbillon includes an automatic caliber 2600B with a 45-hour power reserve, COSC chronometer certification, and two crowns for winding and setting. The touribillon can be wound manually with the crown at three o'clock; the tourbillon watch is set using a caseback crown. Each Omega caliber 2600B beats at 21,600 vibrations per hour, pivots on 48 jewels, and employs a platinum winding mass.
The dial of the Omega De Ville Tourbillon includes a central tourbillon that circulates in one minute cycles and acts as the seconds hand. Two superimposed sapphire discs with deposited metallic "hands" act as the hour and minute displays; these are driven by a pinion under the extended gold bezel. At center, a blue Breguet overcoil hairspring breathes as the hand-finished tourbillon carriage circulates.
The Omega De Ville Tourbillon 5113.30.00 features a 38.7mm 18k yellow gold case surrounding a silver dial on an 18k yellow gold bracelet with folding buckle. Functions include hours, minutes and tourbillon. The watch also measures 13.2mm in thickness and 49mm from lug-to-lug.
