The Metro series represents wristwatches with an almost archetypal flair. Finely detailed dial, domed sapphire crystal glass, diamond knurling on the crown. The new ring date made its debut in 2018 with the classic watch model Tangente. And yet with its double row of indexes for minute and hour markers, Metro seems to have been destined to feature this patented date display. The fine, delicately precise character of the watch is emphasized by the date, which is set around the dial. NOMOS in-house caliber DUW 6101

The in-house calibre DUW 6101 with a quick-set date function is also known within specialist circles as neomatik caliber with date. With a 35,2-millimeter diameter, it is not only very large but also exceptionally slender. Height is 3,6 millimeters. It is therefore perfectly suited for classic watches that fit elegantly under any shirt cuff.

DUW 6101 was completely reconstructed in-house and the date was located exactly where it belongs: at the edge of the dial. The date can be set both forward and backward quickly and easily, with only a few turns of the crown needed for any adjustment. Despite the limited movement height, this was made possible by a specially shaped gear wheel, which connects with the date disk. The precision of the movement is ensured by the Nomos swing system, the proprietary escapement denoted by the tempered blue balance spring. Unique to DUW 6101: The gold-plated lettering on the rotor is embossed; and the words “reguliert in 6 Lagen” (adjusted in 6 positions) are engraved in two colors on the bottom plate. This calibre is lavishly polished and decorated.

The watch with the completely reimagined date function has received a new look. The classic aesthetic remains but it is now a tick sportier, more striking. The movement with the patented date mechanism can be set both forward and backward; the date display, also patented, has been given a fluorescent green addition. The NOMOS Neomatik 41 Update | A Week On The Wrist​

While a lot of brands retread their heritage – to the point where a major design change constitutes moving around some dial text or enlarging the case size by a millimeter – NOMOS genuinely tries to push things forward.

NOMOS released a Bauhaus-style piece called the Metro Neomatik 41 Update. I've had my eye on it ever since. In fact, once you notice what's going on with the design, it's hard to take your eyes off of it. The watch also has an in-house movement. And a sub-$5,000 price tag that's a fraction of what you'd pay for other big brands out there. So there's an awful lot to like here.
