JT mentions he has seen damage when using steel case knives. I have never scratched or nicked any bezel using a case back tool. Marc uses one in the first video. If something gets badly damaged I wouldn't blame the tool, but the person using the tool. In those cases if someone is unsure or shaky handed I would use something made of hard plastic or have someone else do it.
