Hey guys!

Welcome to the forum, Frank!

Howdy, Frank, and welcome to WIT, THE place to come and share your watch tastes with a group of watch lovers who don't care what brand you choose to spend your money on, just as long as it's something that's right for YOU, and you ALONE. There are a few of us, myself included, who have come from watch sites that are staffed with those who feel that it's more important to have discord and name-calling than individual enjoyment of a brand that they have declared to be unfit and/or too silly for their snobbish tastes in Horological hardware. In some ways, it reminded me of East Germany, where the Stasi hunts you down, and, if they can't find something to arrest you for, they make it up out of whole cloth. Seriously! The owner/administrator of one of these off-the-wall sites decided on his own that I had been lying about my military career, and that of my father. He based this whole theory on a brain-fart of mine, wherein I mistakenly referred to the USN Crusader aircraft as the 'A-8,' vice the F-8, which is its USN designation. Never mind that the USN no longer had the F-8 in their inventory (except for a TARPS version in the USNR, which hadn't made a flight in years), he decided I was lying, and he was gonna stick to that theory.

He asked me to send a photo of my retirement ID to prove I had been in the USN and reached the rank of commander. I redacted some of the more sensitive info on the card and sent it to him, but it was proof of my service, and he just ignored it and kept on calling me a liar. The guy traced my posts to see where they'd come from, and then, when I went to Israel for my usual five months out of the year there (I'm a dual citizen both there and here in the USA), he traced my posts again, claiming he'd caught me in a lie, as my posts all originated from my home in Rancho Santa Fe, in the northwest part of Sandy Eggo. I pointed out that I had NORD VPN, which only allows IP addresses that I specify to be traced, but again, this was ignored. The guy did some armchair analysis of my dad's USN dress blues photo, and claimed that the USN Wings of Gold dad was wearing were photoshopped; guys says the pixel background was different by the wings, or some such thing. And so on, and so on, and scooby-dooby-doo...ad infinitum. The guy has called my house and left threatening messages, claiming he's going to expose me as someone committing 'stolen valor' (my retirement award was the Legion of Merit, and this clown, who was a USAF sergeant, claims it was too senior an award for a USN O-5. Unreal. But it IS on my DD-214, in the 'awards box."

ANYhow, I brought up that whole thing by way of letting you know that WIT doesn't engage in ANYTHING like that. Our Administrator is laid back and friendly, and , while he's not afraid to let you know if you've run afoul of the TOS, you don't feel like you've been spanked by dad for doing something evil if you make a slip along the way. He's very friendly and uber approachable. Our moderators don't get involved unless absolutely necessary, and they're more than fair, as well as also being very approachable. I get teased a bit for it -- but all very friendly, I assure you! -- because I like to refer to our site as "A safe, well-lighted and cozy place" in which to show off, compare, or just talk about watches. We have guys who specialize in finding the best watch deals available, and it's amazing some of the stuff they find. Like to show off the watch you're wearing on a given day? We have a forum for that. Want to try your hand at writing a review? We've got a place for that, too. And the members here? ALL are friendly, and no one will ever give you a hard time for your preferred brand choice, nor anything you choose to share with everyone on the boards.

And I guess I've gone on long enough...dang, I've done written me yet another dissertation!! ANYhow, please excuse the length of this greeting, and please take the time to get to know both us and the site we all enjoy so much. We have a great group of people here, and it's a fine place to learn things about watches that we never knew about before. Again, WELCOME to WIT, a wonderful place to learn about this odd habit that we all seem to share. See you out there, mon ami...and, in the meantime, stay safe & be well!
