[h=1]Glycine Combat Sub Aquarius - review[/h] AUTHOR ?YSIE? MARIUSZ DATA OCTOBER 19, 2016 • ( ADD COMMENT )
On the market of watches intended for diving, i.e. "Divers" is very competitive and in virtually every price category. It is no wonder then, that producers are trying to surprise us with new offers. The situation is the same with the title Aquarius. I saw this timer for the first time in photos on the Internet, which were taken by a mobile phone - I thought "another decent diver". However, when I was able to look at him closely, I could tell how wrong I was. This watch is definitely not ordinary.
The envelope measures 46mm in diameter. It was made of stainless steel. Its shapes are an interesting development of what we know from other Glycine products that belong to the Combat collection. The envelope is made really well. What's more, despite the considerable thickness of the timer, this parameter is difficult to note due to the dark color of the telescope ring, which contributes to the optical reduction of the height of the entire watch. Also, very strongly bent ears together with a very well-chosen strap mean that even a wrist with average dimensions, this large watch fits perfectly. It looks very surprisingly good - probably no large "diver" seemed to me so comfortable yet.
A screwed crown is placed on the right side of the envelope. Operating it is very convenient. It also features a new company logo, which has been enriched with "wings" to highlight the company's aviation heritage. At 8 o'clock placed helium valve. It was not placed here by accident - the manufacturer estimated the water resistance of the timer at 50atm. It's really a lot and I suspect that only a few would have the opportunity to test this parameter.
A few words should definitely be dedicated to the bezel, or bezel ring. It was made of black ceramics, the vast majority of which gives the impression of being matte. This type of background perfectly harmonizes with the polished surfaces of raised figures and indexes - including the highlighted first quadrant. Bezel material not only optically significantly reduces the watch in terms of its height, but also harmonizes well with the black dial. These elements were optically separated by a ring of polished metal.
An aspect that is very often raised in the case of rings of the telescope in diver type watches are the so-called "Clicks," or how precisely this ring rotates around the dial, and how exactly the beginning of the scale matches the minute indexes on the dial. In this case, the work of this element is really well refined. The ring works almost velvety, with noticeable jumps between individual positions, and the beginning of the scale fits perfectly with each minute index. In addition, the ring is notched around the entire circumference, which makes it very comfortable in the hand. Huge applause.
The black and matt surface of the dial has been equipped with the necessary scales and indexes, making it very legible and in all lighting conditions. In addition, to improve readability in low light, the minute hand and "dot" on the telescope ring glow blue, not green like the other elements filled with luminescent mass. From the complications of the mechanism useful in everyday use, it is certainly necessary to calculate the date stamp, whose window is at 3 o'clock. The shield protects the convex and impressive sapphire glass. To enhance the effect, they were covered with a triple anti-reflective coating located on the bottom of the glass, so you do not have to worry about accidental scratching of the coatings.
Inside the watch there is a GL224 werk with automatic spring tension, the gait accuracy of which we have not tested.
The strap is actually a material for a separate story. I have not seen such a strap in a watch of this class for a long time (or maybe I have never seen it before). It's great - you have to say it outright. It fits very well to the envelope and is very pleasant to touch. Feel that the rubber used is of high quality. It was decorated with a discreet GLYCINE inscription. An additional advantage is the sensational clasp that resembles that used in watches at least twice as expensive. First of all, it works very confidently, and secondly it has the ability to adjust when putting the watch on the diving foam (or on any other clothing we wear - of course to some extent). This solution will be perfect not only during diving, but also on hot days,
Summary:
Perhaps by reading the above review you can come to the conclusion that this watch is ideal. Certainly it is in some respects, even thanks to the sensational quality / price ratio. This timer is priced at PLN 6,990, which considering the water resistance of 50atm, the use of ceramic elements, two-color Super LumiNova or a great strap with a very good clasp, seems like a really beneficial amount for the buyer. As far as I'm concerned, a long time ago no watch has impressed me as much as the title Aquarius. I recommend it because it's worth it. The quality of workmanship is at a really high level.
The watch was provided by Morwa - a distributor of Glycine watches in Poland.
