In this video (Part 1), we'll discuss in detail how to attach GMT, hour, and minute hands onto your watch with basic equipment and how to choose the correct tool for hand installation. We have used a Seiko NH34 aka 4R34 as a demonstration, but the principle should work for other GMT movements. This video is designed for beginners so we'll cover quite some basics.

This is an update to our previous guide on watch hand installation. It is now expanded to include instructions on installing GMT hands, hour hand, and minute hand.

Timeline:
▶00:00 - Introduction
▶00:29 - Required tools for hand installation and removal
▶01:28 - Propping up the movement and dial assembly
▶02:16 - Picking up a watch hand
▶02:34 - GMT hand positioning and alignment checking
▶04:05 - Setting the hour hand to the correct height
▶05:22 - Adjusting watch hand level
▶05:57 - Setting the hour hand
▶06:42 - Setting the minute hand
▶07:43 - Final checks

I watched this guys stuff no less than 10 times the first time I was starting to dabble with hand setting. Nothing can replace actually doing it but this is hands down (pun intended) the best hand setting video I found

I received these two GMT watches and decided one of them is going to a viewer as a gift. They are both the exact same watch, a 41mm GMT automatic with a red/black bezel ceramic insert and 200m water resistance.

It's been a while since I did any sort of mod or build video, so it seemed fortuitous when DIY watch club reached out and asked if I wanted to check out their new GMT build kit. Which is powered by the brand-new Seiko NH34A movement. So watch my attempt and critique my journey to put this thing together.

I've looked at these GMT kits and would like to give one a try. My only real concern is setting the hands. Haven't looked at the videos yet, so may be it's not that big of a deal.

These kits look like they are well finished. Also is it best to get the PRO kit or just the standard tool kit?

A huge thank you to DIY watch club for giving the this opportunity to build my own watch.

Check them out on their website:

Thank you so much for WATCHing my video.

Great tutorial. Hands are still the hardest part but not near as hard now that I have practiced a lot. The seconds hand stays challenging especially if it was a high caffeine day lol
