Bovet is famous for its pocket watches manufactured for the Chinese market in the 19th century. (Récital 26 Brainstorm® Chapter Two - Red Gold)

100% In-House. The timepieces that can be inserted into the dashboard of the new coachbuilt Rolls-Royce Boat Tail were conceived, developed, and produced completely at the BOVET 1822 facilities in Switzerland. The pair timepieces are completely custom, from the 18K white gold cases to the dials to the tourbillon movements. Even the balance springs are made by BOVET for this amazing project in collaboration with Rolls-Royce.

A PRESERVATION OF TIME

Two-sided timepieces, one for the lady and one for the gentleman, can be worn or placed within the fascia as car clocks. The timepieces required Rolls-Royce and Bovet 1822 to work in partnership for over three years.

The Boat Tail you see pictured here is actually one of three examples. All are unique, with the essential form retained. As was the case with the Sweptail, the price is unknown. It could be the rumored $28 million, but the defraying effect of a three-example run likely puts a sticker of $10 million to $15 million on this particular rarity.

Unlike Any Other. Born in the heart and mind of Mr. Pascal Raffy, the owner of the House of BOVET for 20 years this year, the Miss Audrey Sweet Art takes sugar crystals and transforms them in a breath-taking new decorative dial technique.

High Art on the Dials. On the reverse side, the dials are even more personalized. The masculine timepiece features an aventurine dial with the owner’s sky chart overlaid on top. The feminine timepiece features a miniature painting of a flower bouquet on a mother-of-pearl dial, done by one single artisan who specializes in this métier d’art. The flower bouquet theme is a historical hallmark from BOVET 1822’s long history making ornate and highly-decorated pair watches, and this concept was chosen by the owner and personalized by BOVET 1822.

bovet-rolls-royce-boat-tail-mens-watch.jpg

Both timepieces are more than just simple wristwatches. They can also be used as a pocket watch, desk clock or, most intriguingly of all, as the Boat Tail’s dashboard clock. The last use is thanks to a first-of-its-kind aluminum and titanium mount that the watches can be fitted into once the strap has been removed. To make sure the watch’s precision isn’t affected by being in an upright position, it features a specially-designed tourbillon and a five-day power reserve. There’s also a drawer beneath the mount in which the owners can store the watches and their accompanying straps, chains and pendants.

Best known for its elaborate, double-sided watches, Bovet created a pair of watches for the Boat Tail’s husband-and-wife owners. The two timepieces required some 3,000 hours of work for both development and execution according to Bovet.

The two timepieces are based on the Amadeo, Bovet’s signature wristwatch that can be converted into a pocket watch – or mounted on the Boat Tail’s instrument panel – a nod to the brand’s history as a leading maker of ornate pocket watches for the 19th century Chinese market.

Purely Mechanical. From the start, BOVET was determined to accomplish the Rolls-Royce project in a purely mechanical way, in keeping with its commitment to its in-house, Swiss Handcrafted production. As a result, the engineers and designers had to devise new solutions as they were encountering challenges that they never saw in watchmaking. The solution they chose was to keep all the mechanical parts of the system on the outside of the dashboard. Usually in anything similar, the fixation system never moves, and the movable piece just slots in, like sliding a CD into a CD player. Here it is exactly the opposite – in the dashboard is simply the place for the holder, which itself is equipped with all the mechanical pieces.

A Great Cause. Only Watch is a every-two-year charity auction of unique timepieces, with 99% of the proceeds going directly to fund research into Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a genetic disorder primarily affecting young boys. BOVET 1822 has been involved in ONLY WATCH since its very beginning, donating a unique timepiece made specifically for the auction.

“ONLY WATCH is a charity event near and dear to my heart,” says Mr. Pascal Raffy, owner of BOVET 1822. “I have three children and I hope every day that they remain healthy. This is a great cause and I respect Luc Pettavino, who started and runs it, so much. The artisans at BOVET worked tirelessly to manufacture this miniature work of art, and I am proud to be a continuing part of ONLY WATCH.”

ryNaAmc.jpg

Painstaking Process. The process of producing this dial is extraordinarily complex. First, in the center of the dial is a hand-painted fairy, filled with Super-LumiNova. After the miniature-painting process, the dial is covered with a protective lacquer, securing the art for eternity.

Then, the pure sugar crystals are prepared so their structure will not change when exposed to light or heat (no, the sugar crystals will not melt). The sweet crystals are chosen for size, then combined with a special environmentally-friendly orange paint – matching the theme color of this year’s ONLY WATCH, and carefully hand-applied to the outside of the dial, which has already been coated with orange SuperLumiNova -- by one of BOVET’s miniature painting artisans. This demanding process, protected by a patent, leaves no room for error. One misstep and the entire process has to start again.

The result is an intriguing mix of texture and sparkle, unlike any other dial ever produced in the long history of watchmaking.

The special hands on the dial of the Sweet Art ONLY WATCH are a lovely, romantic touch. Uniquely shaped, they form a beautiful heart once every hour, as the minute hand catches up to the hour hand, reminding the wearer of this worthy cause.

The Récital 22 Grand Récital, honored in 2018 with the Aiguille d'Or at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève, the most prestigious award in watchmaking, highlights a new dynamic shape, inspired by the “V” in BOVET, which makes it easy to read the hour.

Over 700 handcrafted components complement BOVET’s Engineering Brilliance while featuring retrograde minutes, seconds on the double face flying tourbillon, a precision moon phase, a retrograde double-sided date, a retrograde perpetual calendar on the back of the case, and an impressive 9-days power reserve with a single barrel. Made completely in the workshops of BOVET 1822, the Récital 22 Grand Récital pushes watchmaking to new heights.

Grand Complication. The BOVET 1822 Virtuoso Tourbillon features many signatures of the House, including a 60-second tourbillon, a large jumping hour and retrograde minutes on one side, with reversed hand fitting on the other side, all in the patented Amadeo® case. Both dials are deep green guilloché, an age-old decorative technique that BOVET 1822 has mastered. This Grand Complication masterpiece offers 5-days of power reserve and its open-worked design and construction makes the timepiece almost see-through.

:dance2: A true work of art! Watch Making, and Embellishment, at the highest level.:happy:Thanks Mike.:hat:

I am fortunate enough to have seen many of these in person (or variants) and they are like looking at Michaelanglo's David or the Mona Lisa. They are museum pieces that I couldn't even conceive owning.

That said they are magnificent. AP, Vacheron and Patek have somehow been labeled the holy trinity but besides Patek, I don't see it when you compare these to a Bovet. (or even many Breguets for that matter.) This is of course not to say that APs and VCs are superbly crafted. They are.

But Bovet is on another level. The colors they achieve in their dials, the intricacy of the engraving. Nothing isn't finished to perfection.

I was offered the opportunity to try on a Recital, I believe it was over $250k (maybe more.) I declined.

The OttantaSei Tourbillon, designed in collaboration with Pininfarina, is proof of the two Houses’ shared vision, which allowed them to create and achieve the beauty, precision, and design excellence that characterizes this exceptional timepiece.

Owner Mr. Pascal Raffy’s instructions during the development emphasized the word “light” in two senses -- referencing the open-worked nature of the case and the movement and the overall weight of the timepiece. Their unity is a delight for collectors to appreciate on and off the wrist.

Travel Themed. BOVET 1822 has a long history of traveling the world, having been the very first Swiss watch brand to be successful in China, in the 1800s. The Bovet family, the founders of the House, traveled the world, making Swiss timepieces famous. As a result, travel timepieces have always had a home in the BOVET collection. The Récital 27 pictured here is BOVET's unique take on the multiple time zone display, with the multiple time zones easily readable and very easy to set. The power reserve, quite important with this complicated a timepiece, is an astounding 7 days.

As if this triple time zone achievement wasn't enough, BOVET 1822 watchmakers have complemented it with a magnificently decorated dome-shaped moon phase indicator. This fascinating complication is so precise that it only requires a single correction every 122 years.

Celebrate world travel, both historical and modern, with the BOVET 1822 Récital 27.

The House of BOVET has been awarded the Robb Report Best of the Best Dial Innovation for the new Miss Audrey Sweet Art timepiece. It combines a great size (36mm) and the Amadeo convertible system with a ground-breaking new dial technique – actual sugar hand-applied, crystal by crystal, in a variety of beautiful colors. Add to this the unique hands that rotate over this incredible dial, forming a heart once an hour. The Miss Audrey Sweet Art a sweet timepiece in more ways that one.

Overview

The original Récital 26 Brainstorm® Chapter Two in a full sapphire crystal case was introduced and received the GPHG’s Mechanical Exception Award in 2020, the highest accolade in watchmaking. This year, the House of Bovet 1822 is proud to offer this spectacular timepiece with the iconic “writing slope” case in solid 18K red gold.

Featuring Bovet’s patented double-sided flying tourbillon, a second-time zone with a twenty-four city disc, a precision moon phase showing both hemispheres, and offering a full 5 days of power reserve, this timepiece has a completely different character in red gold compared to its original sapphire crystal case. Subtler, perhaps more elegant, the Brainstorm Chapter Two in red gold manages to integrate high-watchmaking expertise, decorative arts, and innovation into this unprecedented gem of artisanal Haute Horlogerie.

Features & Functionality

Mastering Tourbillons. BOVET has been designing and producing its own tourbillons, widely considered the highest complication in watchmaking, for decades. The in-house flying tourbillon in the Récital 26 Brainstorm®️ Chapter Two is exposed at the 6 o’clock position, with space all around it so it is easy to appreciate. Now available in Red Gold, this timepiece won the Mechanical Exception award at watchmaking’s Oscars (the GPHG) in 2020.

Time Around the World. In today’s world, you need to know what time it is in many places around the world. You might live in New York, but you need to know the time in Singapore, Moscow, Dubai, and Geneva in order to make your business successful. With the new Récital 26 Brainstorm®️ Chapter Two, now available in solid 18K Red Gold, the easy-to-use and read world time indication at 3 o’clock shows you the world at a glance. One time is indicated by the special hand that frames the chosen time zone, but all the other cities are always visible and easy to read.

DSC08517-1536x1024.jpeg

To the Moon. The Récital 26 Brainstorm®️ Chapter Two features a unique precision moon phase display showing both hemispheres at the same time. The hand-engraved lunar surface at 9 o’clock, filled with Super-LumiNova, rotates in sync with the lunar cycles and will only require only a one-day correction every 127 years. An open-worked figure-eight structure highlights the portion of the Moon that is visible in either hemisphere.

PowerReserve-1536x1024.jpeg

Power for Days. Known for its long power reserves (BOVET holds the world record with a pocket watch made in 1910 with 370 days of power reserve), the five days this timepiece will run without having to be rewound makes ultimate sense given the world time function at the 3 o’clock position. When you are traveling, you don’t want to have to worry about your timepiece winding down and having to reset your world time indication.

Sustaining Tradition. Founded in 1822, BOVET has always been known for delicate and beautiful engraving. When producing timepieces for the Chinese market in the 1800s, the brand was the first to hand-engrave the compete movement, showcasing its artistry and mechanical mastery. In the Récital 26 Brainstorm Chapter Two, now available in Red Gold, every piece and part is finely finished to the highest standard, and the back of the flying tourbillon movement is fully engraved. The attention to detail and the artistry on full display is truly remarkable.
