Well, FedEx came through, although holding it some extra days, for whatever reason. I redirected it to an official FedEx location, because the local drivers here are rather bananas. Last package I was expecting, was delivered with no one at the address, yet, mysteriously, they claim I signed for it -- and then I guess I left it in my shrubbery, LOL!
Anyway, on to the good stuff! This was kind of an odd build -- a center tourbillon doesn't really seem so suited to a dive watch, just in my mind. Seems more like it should be something a bit elegant or at least elevated, so I opted for the most opulent looking materials that Wing was offering, going for the heated treated Damascus with the white topaz blingery.
Oh, and I also got the scoop Wing was offering, ahahaha! A brilliant idea from Hector "Lightning" Lombard, who has spent a lot of time in various fighting sports, from MMA to bare-knuckle boxing -- Hector calls it the Funnel Scoop, and it's basically a scoop with, yes, you guessed it, a funnel! The concept is to make it easier to transfer powders, like drink or protein mixes, into narrow necked bottles. It's even signed by him, so, I kinda don't want to rip the package open, haha.
But, back to the watch!
So, I have another auto tourby from Wing, another Divermaster style and, in the black dial and black ceramic bezel, it seems to work, but then again the dial looks more like a traditional diver. I have many meteorite watches already, and, given that the prior, heat treated blued meteorite dial idea didn't work out for me, I wanted to give heat treat another go and it's a winner, this time, for me.
I'm not entirely sure about the knurling on the bracelet, and of course there's not much point in a unidirectional bezel, with the topaz decor, so, I don't know, it might have been interesting for Wing to have released two versions -- a toolish look, and a more refined look, perhaps.
In any event, the center tourbillon is stellar, and, considering the exceptionally high price of center tourby watches, a thousand bucks is not bad at all, in my estimation, although, granted, other high end constructions tend to include precious metals and brand brag points, for those to whom it matters. To me, I just love the center tourby design, which is unique among my many (too many!) watches.
Movement decoration is pleasing, but it does seem the lume is not so great, which remains an issue with the Aragon brand. I guess it's just too expensive for him to consider a higher grade and, here, the tiny index points fade pretty quickly.
Difficult to even get a clean photographic capture, because it starts fading the instant that the light is gone.
The white topaz was a pleasant surprise. I wasn't sure if it would be overly blinged out and looking too, umm, sparkly, but as it turns out, it's just the right amount of dazzle to compliment and transform the look, which seems, as I said, a bit brutal for the refined movement. I don't know, it just, in my mind, lends itself more toward the jewelry side of things, so the topaz seems ideal.
It's been a good run with Aragon in the past few years, from the other auto tourby, to the Soprod powered model with the tungsten bezel, and then the titanium build, running the R150, with gold meteorite, and, again, a tungsten bezel. Considering how much less Wing charges, the minor quibbles are pretty minor, for a working class watch nut.
I consider this one a treasured purchase, and I look forward to what Wing will bring in the future, since it certainly seems like a continuing upward trend of horological goodness!
Thanks for reading -- and apologies for being so absent. I'm mostly on my Instagram these days, and became rather preoccupied with that, given my "shiny new thing" brain. I likely won't bother to post up all the prior stuff dating back a few years now. Mostly just many, many Invictas and a few other gems. I'll screen through at some point and see if there's anything worth sharing.
I'll also work on at least posting up this year's stuff. I've geared it all down, quite a bit, and haven't ordered anything new for a while, until this one pulled me out of the NBZ, but I felt it was worth it. A bit of a rare find.
Thanks all! Really appreciate this epic community.
Keep on watching!
