In this episode of On-Wrist Reaction, we have dig into three watches that bring a lot of newness to their respective brands. To kick things off, Zach and Thomas take a look at the Oris Calibre 473 that houses Oris’ brand new in-house movement. The Calibre 473 marks the tenth in-house movement since the Hölstein based brand started the Oris Movement Creation Program and visibly highlights the 5 day power capacity on the backside of the movement via a 120 hour reserve indicator. Next up, the duo checks out the Vulcain Skindiver. Now the first thing that comes to mind when we think of Vulcain is their alarm-equipped Cricket, so naturally a diver from the brand in a tidy 38mm case was interesting to have in hand. A conversation about the BOLDR Odyssey Freediver GMT, its Miyota 9075 movement, and how the gang uses a GMT complication rounds out the episode. Check out the on-wrist reaction for all three watches in the video below, and stay tuned to this space for a more in-depth look at each watch within this week’s OWR selection.

This is a brand new caliber from Oris. As usual they really pack a potent punch.

Five day power reserve is nice. He is right about the time it takes to wind both barrels up to achieve the PR.

The Mirage 2 features a customised Manufacture La Joux-Perret skeletonised 8 day twin barrel movement.

The twin barrels responsible for the exceptional 8 days power reserve are visible through the sapphire dial and sapphire caseback. These barrels feature a ‘turbine’ skeletonization, much like a jet engine. Subdials feature a power reserve indication and sub second hand at 6 o’clock. The movement is fully decorated, complete with black PVD mainplates and a curved-grain pattern.

The Mirage 8 days boasts an incredibly breathtaking “invisible” sapphire crystal dial. This creates a floating effect on the hands, indices, and subdials, which seem to be levitating in the middle of the watch without supports of any kind. Indices are filled with the highest grade Swiss Superluminova BGW9 for an incredible glow that Zelos has become known for.

Only sapphire crystal dials that have passed Zelos’ rigorous quality checks are used, ensuring the end product is nothing short of perfection.

The sapphire dial and the accompanying floating effect it produces is an optical phenomenon, reminiscent of the original Latin meaning of the word Mirage: To Look at, to wonder at.
