Well hello there.... I never know whether or not I should put these posts in the GTG section or her in General. But as this is really more about the watches and the shows than the getting together (of 3 of us this year) I put it here.

So by now I'm sure most of you know that Worn and WOund host an annual show in NYC every Oct. This is the 5th annual year and when I say it grows every year I mean it grows. In fact the first year I only saw it by happenstance. My daughter wanted to check out Chelsea market.. so we did and it just happened to be there. That year it really wasn't very busy despite the activity level inside Chelsea Market. This year it was so crowed, day 1, mid afternoon that you could barely move around and it was hard for us watch brethren to really talk much, compare notes and such.

But still it was a very good time.

Interestingly this year Hamilton was there, a first for a Swatch group brand. And so was Zodiac representing the large Fossil group. Interesting because Wind Up is really usually meant for small market brands. Boutique brands, micro, niche brands. Of course Oris is there but they are the main sponsor so that isn't surprising. Even so they show their watches through Jewelers of London rather than their own booth.

anyway on so pics and some thoughts as I shared this event with Robert (Timecat) and fellow New Jersian Gerard the Grunt.

Juvo from Houston Texas makers of High End watch boxes and Winders. Priced high but well bellow the types of Wolf pieces they are trying to contend with.

Erika's Originals was there... I didn't realized there would be a booth for them and Erika was there herself. She, Robert and I had a very pleasant conversation. (gerard wasn't there yet) and got to see some new colorways, and hardware options including custom engraved hardware that is lumed.... Orange will now be made permanently available, Sahara has been made darker, and a new color Shamal is going to be available. Its a little more brown that the vintage color

Crown and Buckle was there as they have been the past 2 years (at least) with their myriad of straps. This year the chevron as well as the premium natos were on display (as for sale, I bought a Chevron) I will review these straps later but the colors offered are quite cool.

Bespoke Watch Projects, makers of bespoke straps (at not at too bad a price) and bespoke dials

SoLabs and Astor and Banks, the same company offering two very different brands. So Cal is Swatch esque, small, light, plastic, see through, kitchy, 80s. Astor and Banks, semi interesting divers. (not trying to be rude) pretty decent dial design.

Dufa, Baltic, Martenero, Lacco (they always show up)

Beautiful dial work, sparkling, mesmerizing and small but no worries, next year they're making a much bigger 36mm model

Zelos (if I had seen the teal or light blue in person, man I might have went that way, but I do still like my helical blue)

NEXT POST WILL HAVE CHRISTOPHER WARD, ORIS AND CLOSING THOUGHTS.

Christopher Ward has a booth at least 4x the space of every other brand except for Oris. And for some reason they didn't bring that many watches. I was excited to see them in person and compare the new Trident to my MkII and to try on models I've only seen online.

The new tridents are sweet. The details are quite sharp. But even the 42mm plays small, somehow it felt significantly smaller than my 43mm. The C65 is a sweet watch. I've wondered for quite some time can it realliy compete with the Oris 65 and I feel like it does. Of course I asked if they had the yellow (no), green (no) and not all auto colors. Now they did have two new C65s. a bronze case black dial manual wind (awesome) and a white dial GMT, also awesome. These might have tempted me but they're not on sale yet. Got to see their world timer in person (sorry pic didn't come out) and the moon glow, sharp but honestly a smidge underwhelming IMO. Overall I came away wanting a C65 but disappointed in their display because of the lack of watches and frankly their attitude. One of the guys was helpful, the others were more interested in the phones and talking to each other....

Oris, Oris doesn't disappoint. The new Great Barrier Reef, awesome, the new Pro Pilot X, it was just all great. And by the way, they had a Virtual Reality machine set up so you could be inside the new watch. It was pretty damn cool!

so a couple last notes... there were many other brands. Some I had seen a bunch of times to I didn't concentrate too much on them. Never got to see Zodiac, super busy and I forgot by the end of the day. Hamilton brought very few watches from very few model lines. Not a single ventura for example. any way, despite the noise and crowd I"m looking forward to next year.

That has to be a great event. I'm going to have to make it there one year.

Very nice, Gavin. Thank you for the pictures and notes.

awesome DO... saved me a bunch of shoe leather but gave me the thrills... vicariously...i like to watch

gotta say...the anORDAIN SCOTLAND fume ( means smoked ) enamel giving me a big watch woody

Tremendous job, sir. I go to the W&W every year and it never disappoints.

One minor point: Last year, Mido displayed at the W&W, which actually was the first time a Swatch Group brand had displayed there. No big whoop at all; I'd wager lots of folks don't associate Mido with Swatch.

Thanks for the review. A great TIME was had. Some since pictures of the event with some sweet TIMEpieces. Thanks for sharing Gavin.
