MAKARA SEA TURTLE REVIEW https://wornandwound.com/review/maka...turtle-review/

JUNE 17, 2015
WORDS BY Zach Weiss

Case

For me, the Sea Turtles are all about their cases. Big, chunky and faceted, they have a unique design that almost seems like it was forged my by a sword maker. Coming in at 44 x 52 x 17mm, these aren’t subtle watches. A note on the height: it’s largely due to one massive domed sapphire crystal. This is a crystal for crystal lovers. It’s not practical per say, it makes photography a bit difficult, but man is it cool looking. It is double domed though, so it’s distortion free. It gives these watches a look of being some strange piece of antique marine equipment, more than being a time piece. The use of bronze is perfect on these watches as well, for the same reason. The rawness of the metal plus the splotchy patina that occurs creates something that feels nautical.

Same case angles. Looks like the center link gap on the old Android case wasn't machined out to make the Aragon lugs hidden.

I like the case shape and shrouded lugs a lot...and no stamped bezel!!! I'd be game if the price is right. I'd throw it on mesh maybe???

The Big RED Date makes perfect sense in this execution IMO.

I do not like the second hand counter balance on these new Aragons. They are a deal breaker for me.

One of the more common guilloché patterns is the Clous de Paris, also referred to as “hobnail”. According to the Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie, Clous de Paris is a “guilloché pattern on the dial of hollowed lines that intersect to form tiny pyramidal shapes.” As the name suggests, this form of guilloché is reminiscent of the cobbled roads of Paris. This pattern has been adopted and popularized by Audemars Piguet with their ever-famous Royal Oaks. Audemars Piguet termed their iconic Royal Oak dials with Clous de Paris as “tapisserie”.

I like the case. Not a fan of the textured dials. This would look classy in 39-40mm.

Happy Monday. Tested the Aragon DF-47 Automatic all weekend. In my opinion it’s very comfortable and versatile. Received great compliments from many people. Enjoy the photo
