KEEP TRACK OF TIME AT A GLANCE
The Sky-Dweller is a compelling timepiece of revolutionary design that blends to perfection mechanical sophistication and ease of use, which features a dual time zone and an annual calendar.
A distinctive technological masterpiece protected by 11 to 14 patents depending on the model, the Rolex Sky-Dweller provides the information global travellers need to keep track of time at a glance.
A deep red rectangle in one of 12 windows around the dial indicates the current month, a striking characteristic of the Saros annual calendar.
The ingenious mechanism simplifies life for the wearer of the watch, who no longer needs to think about adjusting the date at the end of a 30-day month.
DUAL TIME ZONE
The two time zones are displayed simultaneously.
Local time is indicated by the conventional centre hour, minute and seconds hands. It can be set quickly and easily by means of a mechanism that allows the hour hand to be adjusted independently in one-hour increments both forwards and backwards.
The date change is linked to local time and occurs within a few milliseconds at midnight. So the date displayed in the aperture is always the current date in the wearer’s local time zone.
The Sky-Dweller’s Saros annual calendar owes its high efficiency to a mechanism of revolutionary simplicity.
Displaying the correct date through the year, this ingenious system patented by Rolex replicates the irregular occurrence of 30- and 31-day months using only four additional gear wheels.
INTUITIVE INTERFACE
The rotatable Ring Command bezel interacts with the movement to allow the global traveller to easily access the watch functions that need setting. The bezel can be turned to one of three positions to select the date, local time or reference time. The selected function can then be rapidly adjusted in either direction using the winding crown.
This intuitive interface is based on a complex mechanical module with no fewer than 60 components, the product of state-of-the-art watchmaking and advanced micromechanics. Such innovation epitomizes Rolex's in-house mastery of the design and manufacture of all the essential components of the watch.
9001 Movement
The Sky-Dweller is equipped with calibre 9001, a self-winding mechanical movement entirely developed and manufactured by Rolex. Introduced in 2012, it is one of the most complex calibres ever created by Rolex watchmakers.
Like all Rolex Perpetual movements, the 9001 is a certified Swiss Chronometer, a designation reserved for high-precision watches that have successfully passed the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC) tests. Its architecture, in common with all Oyster watch movements, makes it singularly reliable.
THE FLUTED BEZEL
A ROLEX SIGNATURE
The Rolex fluted bezel is a mark of distinction. Originally, the fluting of the Oyster bezel had a functional purpose: it served to screw the bezel onto the case helping to ensure the waterproofness of the watch. It was therefore identical to the fluting on the case back, which was also screwed onto the case for waterproofness, using specific Rolex tools. Over time, the fluting became an aesthetic element, a genuine Rolex signature feature. Today the fluted bezel is a mark of distinction, always in gold.
WHITE ROLESOR
A MEETING OF TWO METALS
Gold is coveted for its lustre and nobility. Steel reinforces strength and reliability. Together, they harmoniously combine the best of their properties. A true Rolex signature, Rolesor has featured on Rolex models since the early 1930s, and was trademarked as a name in 1933. It is one of the prominent pillars of the Oyster collection.
THE OYSTER BRACELET
ALCHEMY OF FORM AND FUNCTION
The Sky-Dweller is fitted on a solid-link Oyster bracelet in Oystersteel, in the case of the white Rolesor version, or, for the yellow Rolesor version, an Oyster bracelet combining Oystersteel and 18 ct yellow gold. The Oyster bracelet benefits from the new concealed attachment system beneath the bezel which ensures seamless visual continuity between the bracelet and case. It is equipped with a folding Oysterclasp and also features the ingenious Rolex-patented Easylink rapid extension system that allows the wearer to easily increase the bracelet length by approximately 5 mm, for additional comfort in any circumstance.
