The Case
Encased in your choice of either 316L Stainless Steel or CUSN8 Marine-Grade Bronze,
the Hammerhead Chronograph delivers form and function without compromising on either.
The 316L Stainless Steel variant ensures you will always have a utilitarian and sleek finish,
while the CUSN8 Marine-Grade Bronze gives you a watch that will age with you, creating your own distinct patina.
The case is meticulously finished in alternating brushed and polished edges to provide extra depth and complexity in presentation.
This watch, while large, is surprisingly wearable, measuring 44mm in diameter, 48mm lug-to-lug, and 18mm tall (without crystal).
The Movement
The Hammerhead Chronograph retains the characteristic case shape of the Hammerhead, but now contains the famous ETA Valjoux Elaboré 7750, the grandfather of chronograph movements.
This movement has been used in hundreds of watches (Swiss and non-Swiss), and has spawned at least fifty variants. It has been outfitted with a custom skeletonised, PVD rotor for maximum visibility of the masterpiece that is the Valjoux 7750.
The Valjoux Elaboré 7750 has a respectable power reserve of 42 hours and a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, which translates into 8 “ticks” per second, giving this watch a very smooth sweeping effect on the seconds hand.
The Dial
There are three dial colour variants for each case material: Black Sand, Meteorite, and Midnight Blue. All dial variants have applied indices, fully lumed subdials, and a lumed internal tachymeter/chapter ring. The indices and the hands are ground and polished to a glossy, high-reflective finish.
The Crystal
The Hammerhead Chronograph boasts sapphire crystal on both the front and display caseback of the watch. The front crystal is double-domed and has an Anti-Reflective coating on the under side to improve visibility.
The Bezel
The bezel comes in several variants, either a black or blue Zirconium Oxide ceramic bezel that boasts remarkably high resistance to corrosion, wear, abrasion, and scratches. This material is several times harder than Stainless Steel, measuring 1500Hv on the Vickers scale.
On the meteorite dial variants, the bezel is made out of actual meteorite to match, finished with a clear coat epoxy layer to preserve and protect the meteorite. This is a world-first, which debuted with the Zelos Hammerhead II in November 2019, and has returned with the Zelos Hammerhead Chronograph once again.
Dive Capabilities
The watch boasts screw-down pushes and a screw-down crown, which is fitting of its whopping 1,000m water resistance rating. The crown utilises a double gasket system to ensure the 1,000m water resistance rating is rock solid.
It also boasts a Helium Escape Valve on the side of the case at the 9 o’clock position, to assist with the release of trapped helium gas when saturation diving.
Luminescence
The watch is lumed from head to toe in distinctive Zelos style, with the subdials, all hands, indices, internal tachymetre, bezel markings, and even the crowns fully lumed with Super-LumiNova C3 X1 and BGW9.
Bracelet & Strap
The CUSN8 Bronze variant comes with a custom Zelos rubber strap, and the 316L Stainless Steel variant comes with both the rubber strap and a matching 316L Stainless Steel bracelet.
