I must admit...this shines like a torch with just a bit of sunshine and it does last..."Visible247"...just sayin'...
The Visible 247 concept isn't anything new, just using another name. I've seen it used by other companies as well. It works for a novelty watch dial, but I doubt the Lume standards in the watch industry have anything to worry about. There are more limitations than usefulness when it comes to using the material on timepieces. The dials being manufactured with the material and that hinders the design abilities. Maybe they could use micro cutouts on raised Arabic numerals on something like Aragon has used on the HIRO model. I agree about it catches light and shines. I have a plastic Shrek that has a strap made from the stuff. I was taking photos and it was sitting in the background and glowing nice.
This stuff really shines on other molds and applications. I've seen things like toilet seats, wheels, signs, pipes and tube trimmings, etc. manufactured using it. Compared with LumiBrite, Superluminova and Tritium tubes, this stuff is pretty one dimensional. Even Tritium tubes have limitations on how they can be used. Only recently Ball has integrated them into the bezels. With designs and lume the more flexibility capabilities, the better.
Our client wanted to introduce a new range of watches where the whole dial glowed rather than just the hands. A key requirement was that the dials not only needed to perform in terms of glow but had to be a thickness of 0.87mm +/- 0.02mm). The thickness means that dials made in this way are capable of being used with virtually any movement and case i.e. glowing watches can be created for a brand as part of a collection without needing costly retooling.
In addition to manufacturing to this exacting thickness we have been able to incorporate a ‘date window’ in the dial further demonstrating our ability to manufacture to exacting tolerances.
STRAPS
Alongside the dials, a range of silicone watch straps has been developed.
In addition to making it easy to find a watch in the dark, the straps have been designed to deliver a “wow factor” under a range of lighting conditions, for example the “wow factor” (or “surprise” effect) is observed when walking from bright sunlight into a shaded environement such as a bar.
WEARABLE TECHNOLOGY
With a market expected to grow to 6 billion wearable items by 2020 and market demand for trendsetting ideas with dynamic colours and durability will be key for many designers. With our bright day colours and ability to create a ‘wow factor’ when walking into a shaded environment from bright sunlight Visible technology can clearly add value and excitement to any piece of wearable technology while meeting the requirements for durability and comfort.
With our ability to work in both rubbers and plastics we can create bespoke solutions with your designers and engineers to create an additional ‘wow factor’.

Photoluminescent Raw Materials
American Permalight®, Inc. works with high quality, patent-protected strontium-oxide aluminate pigments that are non-radioactive and non-toxic. Due to the processing sensitivity of photoluminescent pigments, we encourage OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturers) to consider the use of Permalight® photoluminescent Masterbatch that already contains the photoluminescent pigments and is ready to use. Permalight® photoluminescent Masterbatch can be added to a variety of different materials, like PU (Polyurethane), PP (Polypropylene), PVC (Poly Vinyl Chloride), PE (Polyethylene), EVA (Ethylene Vinyl Acetate), POM (Polyoxymethylene) and PA (Polyamide). It is therefore excellently suited for manufacturing a wide range of photoluminescent plastic end products. This masterbatch is NOT suited for PC (Polycarbonate). Please contact us for a consultation and our Product Data Sheets!
Possible Applications:

Concentrate
Our concentrate represents a new generation of photoluminescent (PL) technology allowing plastic to have strong daylight colors with long-lasting high glow output in the dark.
⦁ Just add preferred concentration by weight to the polymer.
⦁ Retain output capacity as machine performance is unaffected.
⦁ Does not require drying in most circumstances.
⦁ UV stable and suitable for outdoor use.
⦁ No modifications required – designed to be compatible with most of the injection molding and extrusion machines.
GlowZone white will work with most polymers including polyolefin [PE, HDPE]. However, the non-white colored mixes perform better with engineering grades and most are compatible, including PP, PET, ABS, PA, PC, PC-ABS, and Acrylic.
Masterbatch
We produce custom masterbatch for clients with requirements that cannot be met through our standard formulations. Common reasons for needing custom compounds include:
- High fire retarding properties required
- Physical properties e.g. strength or hardness.
- A polymer is required that is not compatible with our concentrate.
Vinyl Dipping – Vinyl Dip Molding
Vinyl dip molding is a process where products are preheated, dipped into a plastisol compound, and then heated again to ensure that the plastisol is fully cured. Dip molding is extremely durable, flexible, and chemical and weather resistant. One product that you are familiar with is the handle of a gas pump, which was dip molded in black vinyl. Since the handle can withstand the rigors at the pump, it can work for your product as well.
This process offers great versatility to dip parts to a desired length and the flexibility to use a variety of colors and shapes. GlowZone can coat your tools, valve handle, and almost any metal product coated with a permanent bond or molded for separate parts.
GlowZone has pioneered the use of photoluminescence in the dip molding process. Our ability to suspend PL crystals using different micron particle sizes enables your product to have the brightest photoluminescent glow, while outperforming conventional PL products. By suspending PL crystals using different micron particle sizes allow your product to have the brightest photoluminescent glow and outperform conventional PL products.
Powder Coating
We have the ability to powder coat any flat sheet or 3D product. The two main categories of powder coatings are thermosets and thermoplastics. Thermosetting variety incorporates a cross-linker into the formulation. When the powder is baked, it reacts with other chemical groups in the powder polymer. This increases the molecular weight and improves the performance properties.
Thermoplastic on the other hand, does not undergo any additional reactions during the baking process, but rather only flows out into the final coating. GlowZone has incorporated photoluminescent pigment to powder coating technology. The powder used for the process is a mixture of finely ground particles of pigment and resin, which is sprayed onto a surface to be coated. The charged powder particles adhere to the electrically grounded surfaces until heated and fused into a smooth coating in a curing oven.
Silicone Rubber
GlowZone produces both pigments for blending with silicone and prepared silicone dollies ready for molding.
We carry the following colors:
- Orange
- Pink
- Blue
- Purple
- Yellow
- Green
- Brilliant whites
These colors can be combined with a glow effect with around the clock visibility.
Silicone produced with GlowZone has many uses, ranging from protective covers to novelty items.
Two Component PL Packaging
GlowZone’s on-site coating system allows you to apply our PL technology to virtually any paintable surface. With our exclusive double-barrel cartridge, the dual cartridges isolate the two resin components until needed. The compartments are isolated so there is no cross-contamination of materials. Mixing occurs as the materials are dispensed through the motionless mixing nozzle. This system has significant advantages over traditional two-component mix products, single component water base, or vapor cure systems:
- Perfect mix ratio every time
- No air entrapment
- No problem with product gelling due to short pot life
- Single coat system versus 3-5 coats
- Dry time is only 4 hours and walk-on in 8 hours
- One coat will pass all brightness ratings required by building codes
- Zero VOC’s and 100% solids
