View Full Version : Something new that is old - Vintage content

Hey WIT,

Been a while since I posted. Not enough hours in the day these days it seems. Also have been relatively quiet on the watch buying front as well, so nothing really new to share. But recently the vintage watch bug bit me again. Was hunting for nothing in particular, then came across this one that caught my eye. I decided WTF I'm gonna go for it. Price was right after some negotiation and if I don't end up liking it when it arrived I could probably sell it for what I paid. It's also not a dive watch and something that really will add a new dimension to my collection.

So this arrived on Friday and I have to say, I REALLY REALLY like it! It is small but wears beautifully. Unlike most watches (which appear larger in photos) this one actually is the opposite and appears smaller in photos than in the metal. It's a great suit/formal/business watch and easily would fit under a shirt cuff when the time to dress up is required.

The watch is a 1979 Tudor Ranger II Ref: 9111/0S2 Oyster Prince.

Make: Tudor
Dial: Original champagne dial
Hands: Original hands
Case: 36mm without crown, 38mm crown included. Oyster style case with screw down back and screw down Rolex crown
Serial number: 920,xxx
Model number: 9111/0S
Bracelet: Rolex 9585 (stamped)

It's a beautiful, classy watch and oozes Rolex pretty much throughout. The fluted bezel really adds a vintage pop and the elegant champagne dial is subtle yet formal. The smooth sweep of the ETA 2784 Movement is excellent and holds time superbly and is bang on to my iPhone since yesterday which is amazing considering its almost 40 years old. The lume on the hands does show patina and I will be leaving it that way.

Watch was serviced Sept 2015.

What do you guys think ? Definitely not something I usually post, but it's a keeper for sure. I have another vintage incoming (a la 1973) which I will share when it arrives this coming week.

Danny, this is where small is big. I think this Tudor plays nicely on your wrist.
The bezel sets the tone and being a classic tree-hand auto, with a perfectly styled
bracelet, just is da bomb.
