They say that something valuable is worth its weight in gold, and in watchmaking there’s a lot to be said about having some heft. So, given that—and despite having a fully integrated bracelet and costing a gasp-inducing £12,100—the Bulgari Octo Finissimo Automatic, at just 73 grams—less than the weight of a bag of Doritos—might just be, pound-for-pound, the very worst value watch in the world.

i don't have the time to watch the video right now... but if the argument (as it would seem to be presented in the description Mike posted) is that per gram the Bvlgari Octofinissimo is one of the most expensive watches on the planent, that maybe true. But these are amazing watches... if you've even gotten to feel on in your hands, exam the small details, the hand finishing on the movement, and the work that goes into making a watch that can be that light and thin and still an automatic, to me its the opposite of a poor value.

In a world such as high end watches, of course the true value will always be poor when a $25 timex does the job just as well or better. But in the world of watches that cost $10k or more the Bvlgari actually out punches many of its competitors.

The are Hublots using standard Selita movements that cost almost that or more. There are plenty of watch companies that just throw a few jewels on their standard watch and charge you more....

Most of the video towards the end.

Price has a lot to do with it. The finish on the front of the watch is utilitarian. The back is another story and shows how they pushed the envelope with things like a micro platinum rotor. Other long-established watchmakers have been resting on their laurels with decades of complacency. Nowhere near as innovative as Bulgari is being now. The watch may feel like the worst value watch in the world, but its value to watchmaking as a whole, is priceless.

There is always a hook as it were, but this just beyond ridiculous thinness.
Pretty cool!
