I thought that might make you click. Welcome to the Mazzucato RIM show. I had seen these around on TOM and a few places over the last few months and instantly fell in love. I looked high and low and could never find them for a price that was even close to what I could afford. I think they list for $1,400ish. Well I was saving up for the new 7750 Gauge but when it came out being $1000 it was too rich for my blood. I saw this one BNIB on the bay and reached out to the seller. I asked what his bottom dollar was and he gave it. It was a tad above what I could do but well under $1000. After a day or so we reconnected and decided on a fair price for all well well under $1000 (sorry Wing) and blammo.
So, impressions. I think most people assume this is a gimmicky Chinese movement hunk of crap. It's not. The auto is a Miyota 9015 and the quartz chrono is a Miyota JS00. I don't know much about the chrono but we all know the 9015 is legit. The case or cage or holder or whatever you call it is all 316 SS. It is super light!!! I guess due to the case and "cage" being so skeletonized it really does not have that much metal overall. 198 Gm or 7 oz or .43lbs...light in my book but maybe not for all. So first impression is that the packaging is top notch. The artist renderings inside the outer box are a great touch. I love looking at that stuff. The "dry box" is not as hefty as a dive case and I'm pretty sure it's not water resistant but it is super cool nonetheless. The peep hole is cool too (insert joke here). As I looked the thing over I was impressed by the machining and overall fit and finish of it. The small accent areas that were polished were obviously done with care and add some class to it although it is not necessarily and "classy" watch in the traditional sense. The "cage" opens easily and has a solid feel and smooth movement. The hook lever thingy (scientific nomenclature there) is rock solid with no play or rattle at all. When it is closed the case stays glued in place without a nanometer of movement. When open the case flips over easy and locks back into place perfectly and same going back. The crown is push pull and easy to manipulate even if on the wrist and the cage is opened. As you can see the dial has a TON going on. Super deep dish. I love the "drop off" at the inner bezel. I love the "blades" instead of hands. I know many are probably concerned about the strap thing. I think a strap mod is even possible on this one as long as the end is not too think and I punch screw holes in it. The lugs have screws on the bottom that hold the bottom lug to the top lugs so should anything happen a replacement looks pretty easy. The strap itself rubber I think but really supple and comfy
Cons....no lume. I would love the see the white on the hands and the numbers on the inner bezel C3'd and maybe flat tubes somewhere in there. Buckle...cool and maybe better to be simple since the watch has a lot going on. Maybe have it like a brake caliper since it;s a race inspired watch???
Overall I'm more than blown away. I know it's not for everyone but you guys know I like weird stuff. I'm glad I got rimmed. On to the PICS!!!!
