Tissot T-Touch Connect Solar Watch Review | aBlogtoWatch

Ariel Adams of aBlogtoWatch reviews the Tissot T-Touch Connect Solar smartwatch, shown here in the 47mm-wide rose-gold PVD titanium version with ceramic bezel (Ref. T121.420.47.051.02). The watch runs the SwALPS operating system developed by the Swatch Group and is currently compatible with both iOS and Android OS. Features include a perpetual calendar, chronograph, alarm, weather and compass functionality, as well as an activity monitor which include a step counter, calories burned, and altimeter. As its name denotes, the watch uses photovoltaic cells to recharge its battery, and boasts a power reserve of up to six months, depending on usage. The watch is operated via its electronic crown as well as by directly interacting with the tactile sapphire crystal covering the highly-legible MiP (Memory in Pixel) screen. Pricing is 975 CHF.

SOLAR

Tissot uses the greenest of energy sources to power its iconic T-Touch collection: Expert Solar and Connect Solar. Tiny solar sensors located on the watch dial capture light that is stored in an accumulator. The energy needed to run the quartz usually comes from a battery, but here the energy comes from natural or artificial light. This sustainable technology is enabling Tissot to create watches that run for several months without ever needing a recharge.

TACTILE TECHNOLOGY

Tissot developed the first tactile watch 20 years ago. This high-tech feature improves watch ergonomics and makes it unique and intuitive to use. The technology offers an array of functionalities ‒ compass, altimeter, weather, alarm, chronograph ‒ without an abundance of buttons or complex sub-menus.

CERAMIC

This material, recognised to be one of the hardest substances, has been used at Tissot for decades. It is perfectly suited to the external parts of a watch that is exposed to daily scratching and impacts. Ceramic ingredients include aluminium oxide and zirconium, which means that it will never oxidise no matter how much time passes. That means the watch will never lose its shine. It is known for its hypoallergenic properties and is well suited to any wrist.

WATER RESISTANCE

All Tissot watch cases undergo several tests, including a water resistance check. Tissot tests the watch's ability to resist impacts and pressure, as well as the penetration of liquids, gas and dust by replicating the real-life conditions in which the watch may find itself.

The Tissot user's manual give information about the use, the settings and the maintenance of the different Tissot watches.

DURABILITY OF
FINE MATERIALS

Tissot T-touch connected foremost image

The T-Touch Connect Solar is neither a gadget nor a device. It is a 47 mm titanium watch, which, in addition to being hypo-allergenic, comes with an ultra-durable, nearly scratch-proof ceramic bezel. Its ergonomic design is the fruit of Tissot's decades of experience.

Its satin-finish surfaces, soft angles and titanium bracelet are sharp and modern. In addition, it is watertight to 100 metres.

SIMPLE, ROBUST AND
DURABLE

All the electronic components of the T-Touch Connect Solar are energy efficient. The watch is equipped with latest-generation photovoltaic cells that eliminate the need for long, frequent, and stationary cable recharges.

Developed by Swatch Group in collaboration with CSEM, the SwALPS operating system is fully Swiss made. The watch is compatible with iOS, Android, and, soon, Harmony OS operating systems. When offline, it has the same functions as the T-Touch Solar Expert.

A SWISS ARMY KNIFE
FOR THE WRIST

The T-Touch Connect Solar has the essential functions of the T-Touch Solar Expert: perpetual calendar, countdown, chronograph, alarm, weather, and altimeter functions.
New features have also been introduced, like the activity tracker and message and call notification. Information is displayed on the extra-legible outer MIP (Memory In Pixel) screen.

A UNIVERSE AT
ONE'S FINGERTIPS

The T-Touch Connect Solar’s user interface consists of two push-buttons, an electronic crown and a tactile glass made of scratch-resistant sapphire invented for the T-Touch in 1999.

A long push on the start button turns on the tactile crystal. A long push on the “back” button brings back the home screen. The seven function zones can be selected with the tap of a finger. Vibration confirmations make for secure use.

UNLIMITED ENERGY

Tissot T-touch connected better 1 image

No fewer than 35 patents were filed during the design of this watch. The T-Touch Connect Solar's power reserve is basically unlimited when offline. When online, it can run for up to six months depending on usage and sun exposure.

It uses latest-generation photovoltaic cells to recharge its battery freely and constantly.

TOTAL
PRIVACY

description of the image privacy

The operating system of the T-Touch Connect Solar is fully Swiss Made. This certification of component origin and workmanship is a guarantee of manufacturing quality and of security.

Its exclusive, proprietary operating system means that your data are securely stored on servers that ensure your privacy. The watch, its applications, and any paired smartphones cannot send data to third parties.

One important drawback: the wake-up sound is almost inaudible: not loud enough to wake-up you in the morning. I return the watch to Tissot to fix the issue and they told me that the sound level was OK. Unacceptable at this price level. They should fix this issue.
