Yema Digidisc Brown

Since then, YEMA has continued to dedicate themselves in producing a whole range of historic models intended for professionals such as divers, pilots, and car racers. These watches were equipped with remarkably robust cases and reliable movements, which are key attributes of true tool wristwatches. During the 1970s, it was a time where retro-futurism became a movement in creative arts as a result of rapid advancements in technology. This was when YEMA introduced its first revolving disk watch collection that was highly sought-after by Japanese YEMA fans, embracing that period’s concept of futurism and space-age designs.

The YEMA Digidisc Brown is a modern reissue of the 70s model that bears a quirky space-age design highly distinguishable from the conventional watch design in the present day. Its squared angular design oozes a distinct vintage charm associated with many retro-futuristic elements. With a case diameter of 36mm, a lug to lug distance of 43mm, and a thickness of 10.65mm, the watch sits compactly on the wrist. However, the unique designs hold a bold wrist presence that will definitely grab the attention of many.

Finishes on the 316L stainless steel case are meticulously executed to a high level of precision with mirror-like polishing around the case with contrasting horizontal satin brushing across the top of the watch. Even though the YEMA Digidisc Brown recalls designs from the 70s, the combination of finishes allows the piece to flaunt elegance as it catches the light from various angles.

Yema Digidisc Black

While many timepieces of similar designs utilize a quartz movement and an LED digital display, the YEMA Digidisc Black features rotating number discs driven by an in-house automatic movement. The hour and minute discs are represented by its own individual disc with a triangle marker indicating the piece's sole and most essential function - telling the time. Nevertheless, the watch is nothing but tastefully decorated stripes across its deep black dial, creating a subdued look that evokes sophistication. The beautiful horizontal stripes are inspired by modern Japanese architecture that blends unanimously with its retro-futuristic style. Above that, the dial is protected by a piece of sapphire crystal with high scratch resistance capabilities.

The YEMA Digidisc Black is powered by the second-generation in-house Caliber YEMA2000 automatic movement, a stepped-up variation of the MBP1000 Caliber. This magnificent movement yields slightly enhanced precision and durability with optimized components, giving the movement a healthy power reserve of approximately 42 hours. On top of that, movement is gorgeously decorated with stripes and stunning perlage finishing that reflects on their fine craft in producing an in-house movement.

Sapphire crystal with a stylish screw-down signed crown

The YEMA logo is proudly signed on the crown as well as engraved neatly on the face of the piece without drawing too much focus away from the dial. The historic YEMA crest can be found on the screw-down case back as well, allowing the watch to achieve a water resistance of 100m. The watch comes fitted with a matching 24mm brushed stainless steel bracelet that adopts the style of the period, further emphasizing the vintage look.

We’ve prominently seen Swiss and Japanese watch manufacturers dominate the market with countless solid offerings. Nevertheless, the French have also excelled in their watchmaking capabilities with innumerable outstanding watchmakers crafting incredibly sophisticated and beautifully decorated timepieces. One of these talented watchmakers includes Henry Louis Belmont, a methodical and pioneer French watchmaker that established his own legacy in 1948 when he founded the watch brand YEMA in Besançon, in the Doubs, the cradle of French watchmaking.
