A few moths back I purchased a worn once Victorinox Nite Vision. Don't know if you are familiar with the watch, but it has a really cool LED light attached to it. I bought it because of it's looks more than anything, and we all know how good Victorinox watches are. It came on a black leather strap, which unfortunately is of a pretty poor quality. I recon after about a month of solid wear it would be wrecked, but I have only worn it for a few days total. The strap is unique to the watch, and it would appear impossible to find something produced by a third party. Victorinox do not make a replacement, but you can buy a bracelet from them for £140. As I only paid £150 for the watch, this seems a bit excessive. I contacted a manufacturer of straps I found on line and asked them if they could make one up for me. They were very helpful, and informed me it would cost £50 on top of their normal leather strap, making the total cost £285, yes, that isn't a misprint, £285. This is such a shame because I like the watch, but knowing the strap won't hold up, and not wanting to spend £140 on a bracelet, I have put it back on eBay.

Update. I have reduced the price on eBay, so it should sell quickly (but who knows). In advance of it selling I just ordered it's replacement, a Heimdallr Sumo Kanagawa. It's the one with the big wave that is lumed. Can't wait

Stephen kept me in the loop and sent me updates with photos (below) of the watch when it was completed.

Just an observation, the caption on one of the pictures reads "The great wave OFF Kanagawa"

What should it have said? ....

The Great Wave off Kanagawa
Print by Hokusai

Description

The Great Wave off Kanagawa, also known as The Great Wave or simply The Wave, is a woodblock print by the Japanese ukiyo-e artist Hokusai. It was published sometime between 1829 and 1833 in the late Edo period as the first print in Hokusai's series Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji. Wikipedia

When you spend as little as I generally did for all of my watches, having to spend much more than the cost of a watch for a new quality bracelet is quite common...unfortunately.

Whilst I only paid £150 for the watch in question, used, it's full new asking price was £500. As good as the watch is, I was shocked how poor the strap is

I would hold onto the Nite Vision if like that much and I'm sure a suitable solution will be found, always is ya know. Where's Gary is the new Where's Waldo!

Never that simple. Other than my work watch and golf watch I restrict myself to 40 watches, and I have ordered it's replacement. Of course, I could sell another one, but not sure which. I am waiting for a quote back from Steveo, but strongly suspect it will cost far to much to make the purchase viable. It annoys me that a company that makes such fine watches can sell a watch with such a poor strap.
