Question on Aragon's Abalone dials

I got the watch's replacement from Amazon (the glue residue on the old one was quite bothersome).
The "new" one has a good dial, two sheets but no glue residue.

BUT get this: it was supposed to be new one, but it seems to be used: no shrinkwrap and the box had an extra link that had been taken off the watch. The link was just laying there, no protection, scratchin' up the bracelet (there are a couple of tiny scratches on the bracelet. :banghead:

I'm gonna keep it as the price was good ($125), but [censored] I was not expecting Amazon to be like Invicta Stores Yellow tag.

First and only watch that i ever ordered from Amazon was a used customer return with scratches all over it. Not a good first impression. Haven’t ordered a timepiece from them since.

What's surprising is that Amazon has an outlet for "used -like New" items -- from their Amazon Warehouse division :dunno:

So why sell used watches as new? :dunno:

Buying something sold directly by Amazon.com, the response, refund or solution is handled expediently. Even when the seller is a third party they try to offer a solution. I try to make sure what I'm ordering is not being sold through a third party. I'm not saying the "used" watch was sold by a 3rd party seller, just a note of caution.

I figured you might say that. I noted it in my post above. A company as huge as Amazon, QC is probably a blur. The rapid pace environment, selectors and workers doing restock are not trained on any one item. They deal with hundreds of thousands of different items, not just wristwatches. I'd suggest not to deal with them for certain items. Buy directly from the watch vendor and pay more. Who's to say someone didn't buy it and returned as changing their mind, etc. You know the watch looks used, make sure to write a big note and mark it damaged. Hopefully the return center will see the note and deal with it correctly, so the next person won't have to deal with the same issue.

I've had that happen once from amazon, and twice from evine in about 10 year span. What really pissed me off was both had noticeable white stickers with RMA number and barcode. :banghead::banghead::banghead:
Evine offered me a 20% partial refund, Amazon put an apologetic $20 credit in my account AND refunded me as soon as UPS scanned the return package I dropped off, which is why I still patronize them. At this point I don't need to dig up Mr. Ed's body and go over how invicta stores treated me.🐮💩

I can't speak for Evine or Iinvicta. Watches being a large part of the Evine shows and all of Inivicta revenue, they should be aware of the stuff that happens when watches are returned.

I've worked around warehouses all of my working life. I've seen firsthand how the return systems work, regardless if the workers are making minimum wage or $38.00 an hour. If you're lucky you will get one out of 50 workers who might inspect items when picking them. They are judged for performance on how many lines are picked in an hour. The same thing with returns, except it's probably one out of a hundred workers will process return goods correctly if damaged or good to go back into stock. I've seen too many workers putting stock items into the wrong bin location. The next time a selector goes to the lane the computer tell them to pick the item from, someone is going to get the wrong item. In a fast-paced warehouse environment, they only look at a string of numbers and letters, 95% don't read item descriptions. Amazon even has robots picking some orders.

The QVC 1.7 million square feet distribution center in Bethlehem Pa is massive. I can't imagine much QC going on there with all of the automation involved.

There are certainly trade-offs with price verses quality. My next watch will be a Mother of Pearl dial as I don't own yet. Now I'm a bit motivated. I had no idea
how Mother Nature produced such beauty. Informative and topical post!

Some nacre options are harvested from shells too small to give a full dial and will have to be laminated together. I've purchased bulk sized sheets of various pretty stuff for pistol grip inlay and the range of what is available is pretty broad.

IIRC all of my MOP Android/Aragon Dials are single sheet dials, but the Abs are so busy, I honestly couldn't tell you without heading back into the watch cabinet. I suspect they're all laminated sheet dials. Makes me wonder if they're buying stock and cutting their own, or something. Good eye on noticing it in any case.
