I'm in a very hard ponder on an Oris Small Seconds and had some questions for people who might have experience with them.

First off, have they been discontinued? If so, what has replaced it in the 45.5mm case size?

Second, I prefer the bracelet version but it is quite shiny and might want to swap the rubber strap every once and a while. Are straps easily available (cost? ) and easily swappable?

Warranty.... is it worth while to buy from an AD or is gray market a safe bet considering its just a Sellita movement that most watch makers can service?

Any other info would be greatly appreciated!

I wouldn't think twice if this deal came along again. I would buy two and gift one to one of my brothers.

Just like ice cream choices may vary, but that's what makes things so sweet in this hobby, variety.

Same principle applies regardless of the brand or model. No worries!

I'll take the same Omega for $4,000 and roll the dice with the 12-$1,300 saved by buying from a legit grey market seller. The inventory likely came from Omega anyhow. The main thing is that the OEM packaging, etc. is all there.

Ahhh! Gotcha. I'm picking up what you're laying down. Thanks!

I have this small seconds. The winding gear pretty much fell apart after very little use. I didn’t pay a lot for the watch but after a 450.00 repair (at Oris) it became expensive overall. The watch has been fine post repair. I doubt I’ll buy another Oris.

I own that one on a bracelet and it's a nice looker. Got it from ShopHq for less then $750 on a coupon deal three years ago and don't regret the purchase one bit.

never bought a donut...jacked ratio bracelet wider than 2/1 ratio... from my passive reading of the threads over the years...becuase it is a Non-conventional ratio not an easy strap mod... JOEL please correct if i mis -spoke

good hunting

I have two Oris and as per now (knock on wood) I have not had any issues. I have the small seconds on the rubber. The bracelets are amazing but kinda pricey. Mine didn't come with it but I was getting too good a deal to pass up.

ON the newer Aquis models they have changed the screw head type. YOu now need an Oris special screwdriver.
Also their rubber straps are superb and the clasp is awesome.

While I am usually a proponent of brick and mortar shopping I wouldn't hesitate to buy Grey on an Oris since as you point out the movement isn't in-house and should be serviceable by almost anyone and as such you don't really need to worry about Oris parts.

MY personal opinion is I try to get an AD to go as close to a grey market price as I can. If they bite then I get a authorized warranty and they get a sale, (we need brick and mortar stores to try stuff on, keep people in work, etc etc) but if they don't come close enough I go grey.

What's close enough to you is, is up to you. Its not my place to tell you how to spend your money one way or the other. Just sharing my opinion.

as per the Oris website (maybe last month) the small seconds is still available in blue or black/orange. The Hangang and GBR Spec Edt watches also have the small second feature while adding the date track around the inner dial.

Good luck with your choice!

Is that the one you snagged from WOW Gavin? I think it was WOW, but regardless it was a sweet deal man.

TBH I don't see as many amazing grey deals period anymore. Certainly they do happen and exist. Lee makes sure we know about them all and you (Mike) do more than your fair share to alert of of deals as well.

But I feel like every time I used to go on Ashford I was really really tempted. Now, not nearly as often. Joma has all their typical good deals but nothing that has made me consider them on something I actually want for probably a couple years. And they run a few sites as we know, so there's no competition between those.

The old site Justin from Invicta/ShopHQ used to run had sweet deals regularly. That's gone obviously. Drop and TOM haven't impressed me (and drop is getting away from watches.)

eh... done complaining. lol

a piece a cheese with that whine...kidding...but seriously you maybe have horo ennui... shaking up the collection... failure to become "aroused "
by a new tool

in all seriousness the pandemic has shown people who they are and what theY want to become

me I am grateful for everything...but I have a feeling wife gonna catch up on a lotta things ... ECCLESIASTES " a tyme for all things"

well I got a feeling it's gonna be plastic tyme for me...better make a mental allowance and act like I enjoy " making it rain " on what ever wifey wants

and switching gears like a YUGO...good review on ORIS DO...advice...horo memory lane on WOW...good counsel how to weigh grey vs AD....

and the road warrior grail contract watch made at the AN factory an open secret...and talk about pachyderm RW remembered DO trigger pull.. wow must have used a mnemonic secret tool way to go ROAD WARRIOR ...lots of times I feel that...but not here...personal recollection a funny thing...MNEMONIC aids often do have a little trick to them...ROAD WARRIOR you probably wanted it bad and were unrequited that leaves a little burn mark...like I am just old enough to remember living with people that smoked i.e. there were burn marks allover everything ..the house...clothes...car.. and people who smoke in cars get their pants on fire from ember once in a while...always better than KRAMER

all good stuff... for those that remember ... fire...cooked meat enabled man to double his size in a wink of an eye in tyme... man's brain is huge...he needs a lot of food foe it... man's off spring unlike all other animals is HELPLESS WHEN BORN NEEDS COMPLETE NURTURE FOR BABY VERY LARGE BRAIN TO COMPLETE DEVELOPMENT...

during pandemic got to study human evolution on youtube.com...talking evolution here
