WORDS BY ZACH KAZAN https://wornandwound.com/oris-and-ja...rs-sixty-five/

The Oris Divers Sixty-Five has become something of a modern classic at a rapid clip. The flipside to the Oris Aquis (one of a handful of thoroughly modern divers profiled here), the Sixty-Five is unapologetically vintage inspired. You’d guess that from the name alone, but a quick glance at any of the many Divers Sixty-Five references released over the past few years immediately brings to mind the golden age of recreational diving, whether you were here for it or not. Such is the power of a good vintage or vintage influenced watch. And that variety is key to the Sixty-Five’s appeal. It’s the Baskin Robbins of dive watches. And while there might not be 31 flavors of the Sixty-Five quite yet, Oris has spoiled us all with choices that cover a range of sizes, styles, and materials. The Divers Sixty-Five has also been the canvas for many special and limited edition watches, including the collaboration with Japanese denim brand Momotaro that we’ll be looking at today.

This Divers Sixty-Five takes the 40mm stainless steel case that hits the size sweet spot for most people, adds a dramatic gradient green dial, and bronze accents on the rotating dive bezel. The gold tone hands and hour markers with matching lume serve to gently extend the subtle two tone vibes brought about by the bezel, and the whole thing has a really pleasing, aged vintage look.

The Momotaro angle here is in the strap, which you’ve likely noticed by now is made from denim, and features two white “battle stripes” across the top piece of the strap, a Momotaro signature. Oris chose to work with Momotaro because the two brands share a spirit of independence and an ethic of doing things the old fashioned way. Oris is famously one of the oldest Swiss watch brands to remain independently owned, and Momotaro is known to denim lovers as a brand that takes a “no compromises” approach to quality, with plenty of handwork going into each pair of jeans that comes off the line.
