From the Fears Archive - 1924 Silver Cushion Fears Wristwatch
This is the watch that inspired the shape of the Fears Brunswick. Cased in .925 Sterling Silver with beautiful wire lugs, elegant in design and propositions for its time, just like the Brunswick today.

Bark and Jack
I caught up with Nicholas Bowman-Scargill, the 4th managing director of Fears Watches. One of the oldest British watch companies.
Nicholas has launched 2 new watches, the Fears Brunswick Salmon and Brunswick Midus.

Enjoying a fresh coffee on Sunday morning with our new Brunswick Midas featuring its brilliant silver tone on its dial with golden, applied numerals and matching hands, which, in the right light, creates the illusion of a pale champagne colour. The watch features a new solid silver stainless steel caseback, with a spun, circular grained finish; this style of screw down caseback echoes the originals found on rolled gold Fears watches produced in the 1960s and 70s.
THE GLOWING FEARS WATCH.
Hand built in Britain in small batches.
Graceful and complex, the curvaceous Brunswick is an exacting object to create. It takes its inspiration from a gentleman’s cushion case watch in the Fears archives, first made in 1924, and a dial colour used in the 1940s and 50s.
CASE
The Brunswick’s elegant 38mm cushion-shaped case has only one flat surface - the rear sapphire glass. Its glancing curves are machined from 316L stainless steel in Germany, to a level usually reserved for precious metals. The depth of the polish belies the sophistication of the machinery and the skill of the operator.
The Brunswick is manually wound each day using a traditional ‘onion’-shaped winding crown. Made in Switzerland, the crown’s grooves catch the light, adding a touch of radiance to the edge of the case.
DIAL
The Brunswick Salmon features a Copper Salmon dial, as was used on special Fears watches in the 1940s and 50s. This rich tone is created using galvanic coatings of 18ct rose gold and copper.
Expertly made in Germany, the surface of the dial features a delicate vertical brushing, applied by hand, making each dial unique and allowing it to catch the light in a beautiful, subtle way. This effect is complemented by the concentric circle finishing on the sunken sub-seconds, at 6 o’clock.
The numerals are applied to the dial by hand, after being diamond polished, sand-blasted, and coated in anthracite, to give a warm, grey finish. Inspired by the many different typefaces Fears has used throughout its history, they were designed specially for Fears by a horological typographer.
STRAP
Each Brunswick White is paired with a handmade Bristol Leather strap in Bristol Black. This premium strap uses calf leather that has been vegetable tanned in Britain’s oldest vegetable tannery, Bristol’s Thomas Ware & Sons. Its stainless steel pin buckle is subtly engraved with our ‘Pipette’ logo. The Brunswick is designed to fit all of the straps in our range, which you can easily fit yourself without tools.
INDIVIDUALLY NUMBERED
Each watch we make carries a unique serial number. Engraved between the 20mm lugs at 12 o’clock, this number helps us identify your watch and its history.
ENGRAVED PERSONAL TO YOU
Fears offers an engraving service whereby a watch can be made personal to its new owner. Our master hand engraver, based in London’s Mayfair, can engrave initials, a date, or a special verse on your watch.
