How often have you dropped watches?

It seems I have to put on the stupid helmet on this forum for having dropped six watches in two weeks where the fault was mine. 🤪
It's amazing that two of the three autos/mechanical watches dropped were my most expensive and the most delicate (Tourbillons) and less than 1 day old :banghead: I was sure they would have kicked the bucket. Incredible that it took 6 falls for me to get the message.

Some of the anecdotes here about straps failing and hard hits on concrete are terrifying!

yeah u the dropsie queen OOG ...better hold on tight from now on...still stupid watch tricks an entertaining thread

I'm sure I've dropped a few over the last 15 years. The last one to come off was when I was at the supermarket in the pharmacy and a link ripped apart on one of my Invicta Sea Spiders. Luckily it hit the floor on the broken band. No more damage done.

Now, the wife, she is forever seeming to drop her watches. With as many ceramic links she has broken, I would swear she is doing it on purpose. :)

I've never dropped a watch. Yet.
But many seem to break just fine all on their own.
I almost dropped/lost one when a friction pin worked it's way out and nearly disconnected the bracelet. I just happened to notice before it became completely apart and fell.

I've dropped a lot of my watches. Had one take a six foot dive to a hardwood floor that had to have the hands reset. It was an expensive watch. Have had a couple of Invicta's lose their bracelet attachment and fall off my wrist and hit pavement. Have smacked a fairly expensive watch on a door handle and shatter the sapphire crystal. Have tripped into a wall and scraped the hell out of a watch. Dropped many while trying to get a tight fit on a strap. Have had cats knock some to the floor from tables or solar watches from a windowsill. Dropped many while changing batteries or bracelets or straps. Most have survived the falls or bumps though. Plus pre-covid my brothers and I would go to a lot of sporting events or concerts and lets say I'd have way too many beers and bump my watches into all sorts of crap. Spilled quite a number of beers on them as well. I work as a walking mail carrier and beat the living crap out my beater watches and have broke a number of them. I'm a bull in a china shop on a good day and worse when I've had a few too many so a lot of my watches have taken a beating. Hate it when I break one but owning some 300 to 350 others I usually get over it pretty quick.

laughing out lout CG...no point crying ...u have captured the tone of wistful resignation well... it's all in the hands of the horo gods

in watches and life there is no getting through it without some inevitable dings

I have dropped countless numbers of watches, had a couple ripped off my wrist, had some just smashed by a wind blown door and once walked into a parking meter because i wasn't watching where i was going. Lost two in the ocean one was recovered the other would have been impossible to find without a deep diving ROV. Most survived with nothing but a scratch/ding except for the ones where the crystal shattered by getting hit by something hard. One brass watch I had fell on a ceramic tile floor from about 10" while I was standing on an 8' ladder, that one got an ugly dent in it. Never noticed the cheaper watches loosing time autos, mech and of course the quartz watches never seem to be effected! The high end expensive ones different story, Every time they got hit or fell, Either stopped working completely had an issue with performance or just broke and would tell time correctly all had to be sent out for service! I had a Tag that had more frequent flier miles than anyone I know. IMO the more delicate the movement the more likely it will be effected by a sharp blow/fall. I keep all my watches in watch boxes for safe keeping. Luckily even at my age I have really great reflexes and for the few that managed to slip and drop from my hand, usually while putting it on or off, once in a while getting knocked off my desk while working on or sizing them I have been able to catch all before it fell.

we have a winner

Dropped a few onto carpet. No damage. Was in a store looking at something and when I reached to grab one I felt a jerk on my wrist and somehow managed to break the caseback crystal on my Android tungsten 7750. Still in repair shop at Aragon. Glass in movement and new crystal. Crazy!
