So, this is the Skywalker, my second pick up from Giorgio Fedon 1919, the Italian luxury leather goods brand adding Hong Kong built watches to their mix of product offerings.

And, no, not a nod to Star Wars, so not Yoda-approved, but rather the name is an apparent flight-style reference? More on that later.

My first Fedon, the Ocean Hover, I very much enjoy.

Short story on how I wound up with another one….

Something I probably shouldn’t have done, as a buyer with an itchy trigger finger, is signed up, a while ago, with Drop (what used to be Mass Drop – a sufficient number of buyers meant getting a good price on something).

Not sure when they dropped the “Mass” concept, and just went to Drop (and, still, some items still don’t get sold based on not enough buyers), but they sell a wide range of stuff, some exclusive collaborations with other brands, and generally prices can sometimes be quite good. In other cases you can get the same thing for less, from Amazon or whatever. Some stuff is utter junk, I have to say, almost like brands are clearing out items that didn't sell very well. Other buys have been excellent.

Items come up for sale within a buying window of time, and, if you miss it, sometimes it’s gone. Other times the item circles back around, but, it’s been a cool place for other interests of mine, like ridiculously bright tactical flashlights and interesting knife designs (including one I picked up, sporting the famed S35VN steel, with a carbon fiber inlay on blued titanium frame, insanely smooth deployment -- it’s a beauty).

They have other various gadgets, headphones, headphone amps and such, and, to finally come to the point, they also offer watches, and occasionally one will catch my eye at a price I like.

Long story, sorry!

In this case, keeping with the recent exposed movement idea, from the Invicta Tourby and Egard, this is an open heart design, and, when I bought my previous Fedon, I’d actually liked this Skywalker, a lot, and, since Drop was offering it for far less than retail, I decided to grab it.

Quite a few colorway options were for sale, but my blue fandom continues, and I really liked how they started with a black dial, and added elements of blue, cased up in rose gold. So, that was the color combo for me!

Another winning leather strap, which makes sense, since Giorgio Fedon’s main work is leather, and it is in a blue tone, to compliment the various blue clues of the watch itself.

They’ve opted for the Seiko NH39A, which provides a 41h PR, 21,600 vph, and also graces the face with a 24 hour dial. Giorgio has opted to track this with a three spoke wheel, and perhaps this is the aviation nod, resembling the prop of a plane??

Fedon’s own advertising pushed an aviation spin (basically showing cool pilot dudes wearing it, haha) but, other than prop on the 24 hour subdial, it otherwise does not seem very evocative of a pilot style, at all, to be honest, although the Ocean Hover was equally imaginative in how it claimed to be a diver, so I suppose the brand doesn’t mind defining a watch in their own way.

Fine with me, however, since I like the design. :)

We see the not so original crown guard concept here, and that bit is a little fiddly, just because, with the flapper thing open, the crown is just not so easy to access, for winding or setting, but, it dresses up the watch a bit.

Like the Hover, I appreciate their out of the ordinary thinking, with nods to various existing styles but parsing their own look in the final design process, so as not to be overly derivative of any one existing watch.

Not sure if that leaves their watches feeling less than original, but I can appreciate how they present various watch features. Even the teak type dial face is presented here in a diagonal pattern, to feel a bit different. Case and dial, the strap and even the buckle are all pleasing.

As I postulated when discussing the Ocean Hover, it’s almost like a big fan of watches is behind this arm of the luxury leather company, and I suspect that is maybe true, since their watches were launched after a very successful expansion of the brand’s leather goods into Hong Kong which is, of course, a haven for watch manufacture.

Whether a watch-loving Fedon family member saw that haven, and the idea light clicked on, or whether a savvy HK based watch designer saw the value of putting a popular, proven brand name on a watch line, who can say, but an HK watch with Italian flare does offer some charm.

I might be somewhat alone in that, haha, given that the general view in the Drop forum was seeming to border on a desire to vomit at the sight of this watch, but, call me weird, I think it looks just interesting enough to be appealing. A kind of funky dressy thing with a sporty vibe?

Specs: well, for under two hundred bucks, you get a 45mm stainless steel cushion case design, 13mm thick, with the “rose tone” finish, the NH39A movement, shown through an exhibition case back, showboating a blue “Fedon” rotor, 100m WR, sapphire top crystal and a wonderfully soft “Italian leather” strap. As mentioned, a 24 hour subdial. There is no date feature.

Lume, unfortunately sad, all but gone in a little over ten minutes, so a bit of a weak part of their watch game there.

But, back to that strap, the fit is wonderful and comfortable of course.

I’m not generally in love with open heart designs, and only own a few others, but this one felt compelling enough to find a place in my collection.

So, it’s another non-Italian winner from an Italian brand, haha!

Thanks for reading, and keep on watching!

Thanks for reading, and keep on watching!
Nice I like the brand, good looking watch! TJ Maxx had a lot of Giorgio Fedon 1919 stuff a few years ago including their watches and I never pulled the trigger and they were really priced right $99.00 to $130.00! Kicked myself in the a** for not grabbing a few. I get the Drop Emails and never saw this one offed! Probably would have grabbed one for myself. I have gotten watches, a guitar and a few knives on Drop. I liked it when they did the price drops the more orders they got now it is just the price advertised. Just got a Heritor auto from them I haven't posted yet. Did they have several color choices for this one?

Thanks! And, yes, Drop does put some out some decent stuff, for sure. Kind of a mix at times, and, as I say, sometimes I've found a great product there that I can get for less elsewhere, and, some stuff has seemed like maybe it wasn't selling well, and wound up on the Drop pile, haha.

Like some of the tactical lights are ones with a crummy UI or whatever, so I've taken to doing my homework rather than just grabbing something that looks appealing -- I mean, that's a good practice, no matter what the source though and I need to work on being less impulsive anyway, haha.

And, yes, there were, I believe, four colorways for this model. All of them were pretty sharp, to be honest, but the other colors were more sporty (black and red, black and yellow, were two that I recall, and maybe the third was a cream dial) and I felt this this one brought out more of the dressy flair that I liked, for what I wanted.

These can tend to run around $300, so, getting it for a hundred bucks less was worth it.

Look forward to seeing the Heritor!
