My thanks here goes to @Still tickin, for his post back in early January of this year, presenting this fantabulous watch. It was another one I simply could not get out of my head, haha.
It just takes the great DB design, and kicks it up a notch, and, to my eye, is almost a reverse Kontiki, with those triangles facing outward. An Eterna is another watch on the list, some day, and those signature triangles are a feature I’ve always loved, but, the simple design quirk of facing them the other way here, idk, it just really works.
Someone more watch-savvy than me would have to say what makes this a “Vintage” since it looks pretty darn modern, and any vintage diver I’ve looked into, with the similar arrows, has them facing outward, in Kontiki style.
Anyway, what’s in a name – it’s the watch that is the winner here!
I think this makes my third Master 1000 II, and around my 8th DB buy. A terrific 44mm size, reliable NH35, ceramic bezel, sapphire crystal, 300m WR, and I opted for the strap, because I find the black to be actually more complimentary than a bracelet, for this particular dial.
Me seemingly to still be the king of sub-crystal dirt, the first one arrived with some kind of lint trailing on the hour hand, plus a scratch in the dial itself. I notified DB, and, a paid return label and an exchange instantly followed, and the replacement was perfect.
New one, zero issues!
Now, having had prior DB’s with their strap, I knew I’d swap it. It’s a pleasing strap, comfortable, conforms to the case, is branded with the logo and has a branded buckle, but, these silicone types are epic lint magnets....
So I’d already pre-ordered my favorite 22mm universal strap, the Crafter Blue.
As I’ve raved about before, the CB’s are incredible, the brushed hardware matches well, the vanilla scent is very pleasing, and they are tough as nails, made from vulcanized rubber. They also do not attract dust or lint, and, because they are just bit stiffer than silicone, they tend to sit well on the wrist.
You don’t get the curve conforming match to the case, but the thickness at the lug points makes up for it, so the case doesn’t seem abandoned atop an ill-fitting strap.
They are also well ventilated, so, an ideal summer and in-the-water strap.
Extremely pleased with this pick up, and, like the Alpha Marine 500, such an excellent price point for what is received.
I’ll leave ya’ll with an epic lume shot. What a watch!
Next batch of posts will be some buys that were just too good to miss, and then some further tributes to other members who have inspired my choices recently.
Thanks for reading!
Keep on watching.
