Today we've got a YouTube premiere for you! Introducing the Damasko DC86 chronograph, featuring an in-house modified Damasko C51-6 movement. The movement emulates the Lemania 5100, with its elapsed center second and minutes, making it one of the easiest to read mechanical chronographs we've come across.
Product description
A new chronograph line based on the DAMASKO chronograph calibre C51 is heralded with the DC8X series. A criterion of this development is to increase the readability of the chronograph functions significantly. Here, the historic Lemania 5100 movement acted as a role model. The main focus of the new line is on the technical realisation of a springing 60 stop-minute display from the centre. Thanks to this new, patented design, it is possible to record stop times even more easily, accurately and quickly. It offers two key advantages: 60 minutes, instead of the usual 30 minutes, are counted in a hand revolution and the allocated minute-stop scale can be seen across the full face diameter.
Movement
DAMASKO chronograph movment C51-6, reglage in TOP performance, 48 hours power reserve
Functions
hours, minute, small second; chronograph with central second, -minute and small hours counter, additional 24-hours-indicator, date with quick correction and quick change
Case
ice-hardened stainless steel, case back screwed, crown screwed into case according to the "DAMASKO System" with crown protection, waterproof 10bar / 100meters, low pressure resistant, functional reliabilty testet and certified at negative pressure and acceleration according to military standard, double domed sapphire crystal, special antireflective coating on the inner side
Bezel
hardened bezel, rotable in both directions, 1-11 / 5-55 / 60-minute-countdown

Patented EPS® spiral
When something or someone is said to “work like movement”, what is meant is that the person or thing in question displays extreme accuracy and reliability. The objective of the DAMASKO movement is nothing less than that – regular oscillation that comes as close as possible to absolute values. Here, classic mechanical movements have two limits: natural asymmetry of the material itself that increases during the lifespan and the instantaneous influence of temperature, pressure, gravitation and magnetism. The patented EPS® spiral solves these problems at several levels. The polycrystalline silicon is non-sensitive to physical external influences. The spiral itself is highly elastic and is significantly lighter than steel spirals, for which reason there is a considerably lower centrifugal-force effect upon impacts. Traditional spirals are also fastened to the balance shaft through heat or pressure deformation, which, in turn, negatively influences the material properties. In contrast, the EPS® spiral is clipped into patented studs, whose spring-loaded design allows the subtlest of subsequent corrections of the attachment point. Thanks to this intelligent combination of form, material and workmanship, the EPS® spiral oscillates in an ideal, concentric fashion and is a visible expression of the DAMASKO innovation policy of granting the mechanical watch a maximum degree of isochronism, i.e. complete equability. Anit-magnetic according to DIN3809.
Innovative in-house production depth
To be able to call oneself justifiably a manufactory is today a rare privilege and a particular responsibility. DAMASKO takes this responsibility even more seriously than is actually necessary. In-house manufacturing of up to 90 per cent – due above all to the two manufactory calibres A 35 and H 35 – already gives the DAMASKO watches a special position among the connoisseur watches. However, the fact that they contain not only genuine handcraft of German production but completely new material and functional developments is innovative vertical integration.
Here are a few examples from the DAMASKO patent portfolio:
100% manufactory – the steel bracelet
100% Made in Germany – 100% Made in House. Like the case made of ice-hardened stainless steel, the manufactory steel bracelet from DAMASKO is made using highly resilient joining elements made of grade-5 titanium. From the development of the design to the manufacture of each individual part at the local production plant in Barbing to the manual assembly, this steel bracelet constitutes a high-tech product of German engineering art. The combination of the two technology materials stainless steel and titanium makes the DAMASKO steel wrist bracelets nearly indestructible. A sophisticated bracelet changing tool is also provided, which enables the length to be adjusted in a manner that protects the screws. A preservation cylinder in the shaft of the tool prevents screws from being lost.
Developed under the toughest conditions
When a normal car accelerates there is a force of roughly 0.3 g on the passenger. A Formula 1 racing driver has to withstand 5 g in the bends. An Airbus Defence & Space pilot may be exposed to forces of up to 12 g for a short time in the event of an emergency exit using the ejection seat and a sudden drop in pressure and temperature. The EADS test pilots in Manching have at least been able to rely on their aviator watch coping with this since 2007.
As the DAMASKO DC 56 has in the meantime been the official timepiece for the Eurofighter test pilots for more than ten years, having not shown any malfunctions even under the toughest flying conditions. The DAMASKO brand has also constantly developed with its challenges thanks to the extreme endurance tests in Manching in accordance with the strict NATO military standard Mil.810. Continuous innovations such as the EPS® silicon spring among others are up to the DC 56’s tough job at 12.000 metres altitude. Accelerations up to 9 g, strong temperature fluctuations from -40° degree to +54° degree and fast changing cabin pressure are normal everyday working conditions for the world’s best fighter jet pilots, without an emergency.
For us at DAMASKO it is always exciting to see our own products “in their natural surrounding”. And similarly to with Formula 1, every DAMASKO customer benefits from the ambitious further developments for extreme use in the end, like with the EADS – not just for aviator watch models but in general. It therefore goes without saying that the first generation of official watches have now been upgraded with our patented silicon spring and the DAMASKO rotor with ceramic bearing in return. So it’s a real win-win situation.
We are looking forward to an innovative future with all our customers!

Here are a few examples from the DAMASKO patent portfolio:
- The first martensitic, hardenable stainless steels for watch cases heralded the development of material specialist DAMASKO into a watch manufactory.
- With its multi-layer structure, the DAMEST® coating protects the DAMASKO watches permanently from traces of wear.
- The EPS® spiral enables hitherto unachieved accuracy and physical non-sensitivity of the entire mechanical movement.
