In the first installment of our three part series in partnership with IWC, we introduce you to Evan Robinson – commercial photographer and backcountry pilot. When he's not on set, Evan flies his restored Piper Tri-Pacer into the California wilderness in search of adventure and inspiration.

The world looks completely different when you're thousands of feet in the air. Inspiration is everywhere. Photographer and director Evan Robinson realized this immediately when he started gazing out from the cockpit of his Piper Tri-Pacer.

Based in Los Angeles and spending much of his time in photo studios, his plane is his ticket out, his license to leave the world of glass buildings and glowing electronics for something a bit more serene. "The patterns that nature makes are profoundly more beautiful than the patterns of our cities," Evan says. "When you fly by yourself, it really feels like you’ve just strapped on a pair of wings."

Lori MacNichol will be the first person to tell you that the greatest gift she ever gave herself was learning how to fly. Funnily enough though, it wasn't a dream of cruising above the mountains of western Idaho that originally landed Lori in the pilot's seat. Her passion for aviation grew out of her desire to find better, more remote spots for fly fishing – something she has loved her whole life – but once she got a taste of flying, it was all she could think about. It became her life.

In the second installment of our three part series in partnership with IWC, we introduce you to Lori and the backcountry lifestyle she loves.

At Home In The Mountains

Originally from San Francisco, Lori first moved to McCall, Idaho, in 1982 and quickly got her pilot's license. It was just a year later that she took her first backcountry flying lesson with Lyn Clark, who would go on to become her mentor, and from that point on she was drawn in by the mountains and canyons of the Northwest backcountry. After stints flying for many different commercial operations, and even moving away from McCall for a few years, Lori settled back down in Idaho and found her calling, training pilot's to fly safely in the mountainous region she loves so much.

[h=2]Inside The Pilot's Chronograph[/h]
While the classic pilot's watch has just three hands, you sometimes need a bit more than that to get the job done. The IWC Pilot's Watch Chronograph maintains the legibility-first design of more basic aviators' watches, but adds a day and date indicator at three o'clock as well as a chronograph that can time events up to 12 hours using the sub-dials at 12 o’clock and six o’clock. The addition of a steel bracelet makes this a real go-anywhere, do-anything kind of watch, whether you're timing your next flight or not.
