🚀Aragon DM-4 Meteorite Auto: Update on 10/13/20 Just 40 Units Left Of The 45mm Size

I have plenty of watches that are thicker in height, but the only reason for making these so thick is to keep the cost down. They are using plug in parts across the board and I understand the balance of the average Aragon fan when it comes to bigger being better. I have plenty of other options to find something in my wheelhouse. I just see no sense in a thin movement like the Miyota being inside a16mm case. It makes cents from the viewpoint of Aragon to help with the profit margins. If you machine a thinner case that comes with a cost, so having certain universal case specs across the board seems to be the avenue used.
I agree. But then we get the benefit of a lower price 😬

The 55mm Gauge is 22mm thick. The Miyota 9100 movement measures 5.52mm in height, roughly four times the case height.

Wow, too big for me!

Already had the Miyota 9015 ordered, but the NH35 version for $200 was too tempting to pass on. Both versions are now on the way. I enjoy bigger watches, so the 16mm thickness of the Divemaster 4, as listed on the site, is a breeze for me. After 4 watches in two weeks, I gotta chill before Mrs. Bigbasshunter starts gettin an attitude.
I'm debated on that one too. For $200 with a ceramic bezel it's probably a no brainer.

Wow, too big for me!
Yep, I agree.

I don't know if there is any correlation or it could just be a coincidence. I can take each one of the watches that have developed haze under the crystal, including three Android Gauges. Everyone is housed inside an overly thick case. To hold those movements in place they need to use a thicker plastic retainer ring to keep the movement in place. That's a lot of dead space to fill and a big chunk of plastic that heightens the chances of off gassing. The plastic can vaporize and eventually settle on the surface of the crystal, causing a film on the inside.

It's the right thread and correct expression. :poop::oops::nono:Exactly how I look when I glance at these foggy abominations. Sad, sad, sad! No one should ever need to open an automatic watch because of haze!

Just ordered the 50mm nh35 DM4

Congrats Steve and wear them in the best of health! I threw in my $228.96 in the hat as well. I drew $6,000 out of my bank account to pay the electrician and had two hundred left burning a hole in my pocket. I figured what the hell. It will give me something to compare the others with. I also have a few spare Miyota movements if I have to crack this open once it is no longer under warranty.

So you caved, 😂😂😂

Just curious, anyone pick up a dm42 and what are your impressions? I’m thinking about adding one to my dm4 cart to save separate shipping.

Well I went ahead and got the 50mm, NH35 with Ceramic bezel. I figure if I don't love it I can pass it on to someone here that missed it. It's a pretty good deal for $212 I think

I'm not buying but $200 is a nice price. The too thick thing doesn't really make the greatest argument against it as most Zelos dive watches are all in the same range of thickness. There is the quality gap though with the brands and while I like Wing, Zelos has left him playing catch up. Wing is giving a pretty good looking value on this model. Using Ceramic and Meteorite bezels at least Wing is upping some materials and acting a little more like the Microbrand he had promised when Aragon was first announced. Looking forward to seeing all the pics when everyone's comes in.

I'll agree to disagree on the Zelos comparison. I have just about every model Elshan has made. He does have some thicker case models, but they are in relation to size and WR rating. Wing makes his watches thick across the board. The Zelos height comes into play with the higher domed crystals on the smaller ones. When Zelos uses the Miyota 9015 he makes it a point to slim the case size down because of the slimmer movement.

Specifications Mako V3
Case : 40mm Diameter, 20mm Lug width, 46mm Lug to Lug Length, 11.5mm thickness without crystal
Water Resistance : 300m
Crystal : Sapphire, 2.5mm thick vintage style 'Box' crystal
Bezel Insert : 120 Clicks, Ceramic insert with 2000 Vickers hardness, brushed and fully lumed

3-mete-rubber-_2019-12-12_-Zelos-Elshan-Mako-V3-300M--20872-crop-mr_1024x1024.jpg

The dial has also been designed to be cleaner with fewer markings, with larger indices for even brighter lume. Case thickness has also been reduced for the Mako V3, to a svelte 11.5mm without the thick domed crystal.

This is achieved through the use of the thinner Miyota 9015 which also offers an even lower price point and amazing timekeeping.

If you're going to compare the 40mm watches is that a fair comparison. Zelos's bigger dive watches are mostly as thick as the 45 mm version of this aragon and Zelos lists the thickness of the watch case and bezel and then, measures the thickness with the crystal thrown in as well.Another great attention to detail that Zelos is killing Wing with . I'm going to say flat out Zelos makes a better watch, period ,end of story in my mind. That said if you take the measurements from Zelos's bigger dive watches they are all in the same range as this Aragon. That is what I'm comparing. You've fairly compared the two brands in this thread and while I'm not buying this Aragon I agree with your assessment of the two brands in total 100%.

Yeah it is because the bigger watch has a 200m WR rating and the 40 has a 300m rating. That's my whole point. The case thickness serves no purpose.

I understand your point CG. I could have explained myself better. I was thinking that if Wing would make the cases a little slimmer they could be used for different movements. I know why he does it probably to make the majority of his fan base happy. Big and heavy to some = a well-made timepiece. I used to have the mindset a long time ago with heavier watches, but some of the Aragon lovers will disagree with still today. That's what keeps things interesting, different perspectives, no right or wrong. I guess I over analyze things too much going through the bigger, heavier, to the thinner, smaller phase. You can still make a substantial watch, but some of the specs can be downsized like thickness.

Wing does the same thing with the bracelet links. Just because the links are 5mm thick bricks doesn't make them better than thinner ones. Sometimes these guys get pigeonholed by old designs. Some of the fan base would likely say thinner links on bracelets feel cheap, but in reality it eases up some of the excess weight.
